I was voting Republican in the early 1980s. I knew at a visceral level that Reagan was appealing to racists. Part of me at that time was probably in denial. Colin Powell at one time probably thought he could make the GOP better by participating within its institutional framework. I think there are people that walked in my shoes, and maybe some are still stuck in that cycle of denial and delusion.

The bottom line is that I ultimately had to recognize that the modern GOP has no intention of ever cleansing itself of racists. This board is the perfect example, where degenerate Trump loving racists are allowed to patrol the board while almost all conservative posters turn a blind eye to it.
