If respect for law and order is lost we’re headed down a dark road. My suggestion [and I would totally do this if I was cop in one of these areas lol] is to keep a paint ball gun handy in the cruiser. And when the thugs decide they want to play in the water light a few of them up with purple paint. It would sting like a SOB but not send anyone to the hospital and the cops would stay dry. And it would have the added benefit of producing some really amusing video clips.
Politically, such thug shenanigans are a big loser for the left and a win for Trump. I can see the campaign ads already.
