I'm very grateful to be on such high ground because regardless of flooding, it won't affect me
During Irma, I lost power for less than 24 hrs. JEA was on it.
I hope the EURO model wins...Dorian will have a shorter visit!
Stay tuned.
Figured it's time to start a Dorian thread for fellow storm chasers and enthusiasts.
Still a TS and should become a hurricane late Friday.
From looking at my ICON system my belief is
that Hurricane Dorian will skirt the east coast of
central FL (by noon Sun. 9/1), head NNE to GA and SC;
then come very close to the Cape Hatteras
area (sustained winds 80>100mph / gusts 100>120mph),
but the steering currents I see now for next week
should then be sending her off to the NE by 8am Wed. 9/4.
At this point I do not see the eye actually coming ashore
anywhere and moving inland.

Freezer? ... maybe with the lids off. They'll probably bust if they freeze. Just have to find the right type of containers for that.

They're just hurricanes. People have the luxury of time to prepare to stay or go. There are good shelters for people in our state as well
for those who don't feel safe in their homes or have special needs and always some that accept pets...worked in them for 3 years.
We're just having some basic common sense conversations, talking about some of our prior experiences and tracking it. Everyone has their
experiences with what nature can bring in their parts of the country and the world. It's a way to pass time while waiting for the bomb to drop.
I know I couldn't handle living somewhere with tornadoes or earthquakes having no time to prepare.
The forecast seems to be getting worse and worse. A Cat 4 that stalls over FLa.? ... eeeek!.
I dont mind the hurricane, its the 7 days after, without power, in the sweltering heat that bothers me.
Another handy little tip:
If your power goes out for a few days, your wifi is down and the stores and fast food places are all closed, head over to the nearest hospital.
They'll have power, a/c, free public wifi to check and send emails, forum post, etc.
Plus they'll have at least one cafeteria and possibly a franchise place like Subway, etc.
Convenient way to sit down in the a/c, get breakfast or lunch, have a cup of coffee, do your internet stuff, etc, etc.
Also, many cell providers give free data services during a hurricane. I used the hotspot for my PC when I was out of power for a few hours once.Another handy little tip:

Before they are called Tropical Storms, the are called Tropical Depressions. Usually forming off the coast of Africa.
