it wasn't his application to the KKK.......it was an antique document in a frame.........
 
I think the issue here is ... did he violate his terms of employment, not free speech.

I suspect there is more evidence we haven't seen.

Nothing says, man I have a super low social IQ, and probably a low IQ period, than proudly displaying racism and asking people around you, "What's wrong with being a total racist asshole?" then wondering why the people around you don't want to be there any longer and think you are lower than whale poop (and we all know whale poop sinks to the bottom of the ocean)...

Stacking human poop in your yard has about the same effect on your neighbors and those around you as openly racist sentiment.

Hide it in the closet where it belongs, it is shameful stupidity and deserves nothing better than mockery.

That you would be *shocked* that some idiot who can't think to remove racist paraphernalia from his walls when selling his house might get fired from his public servant role is just more evidence that you can't actually understand that other people think differently and think that racism is something that should be hidden like being gay used to be. As one who has bought and sold many homes as investments I’ve never once heard someone say “I think it would be a good idea to frame a KKK application and hang it on the wall to create value”.

But if that’s something you’re into more power to you.

At least on this board TDAK is very proudly and openly racist. In the real world who knows what he is like. But such is life on an anonymous internet chat board.
 
While I think he's not that smart, I also think that he's likely going to get his job back. Collecting historical documents is not something that should get you fired, even this kind of historical document.

Noting that keeping that nonsense on your wall while selling your house is flat stupid should be the takeaway from this story. It just makes no sense that he'd keep that on the wall and think that nobody would care. If you collect old Nazi stuff because of its historical value I would tell you to remove it from the house before I would put my realtor sign out front, mostly because I get more money if you get more money for your house.

Anyway, I don't think that this firing is going to stick unless there is more evidence of this cop's direct racism than a collection of historical stuff.

He killed a black dude in 2009 I believe while on the job. He wasn’t charged but think I read they are reopening the case or looking into it again.

It just doesn’t make sense to me for anyone, but especially a police officer, to have that stuff on your wall during an open house

I’m wondering the same thing. If I’m a realtor I wouldn’t want to be known as the person who listed the home with the KKK application hanging on the wall.

To me either the realtor didn’t care that it was there or if they said something the owner said it stays and if you have a problem don’t list the house. And the realtor then decided the commission was more important

Maybe a souvenir? It was hanging on his wall, not filled out lying on his desk.
I have a flintlock and an American flag hanging on my wall. I guess if I want to
sell my home I'd better take them down, I wouldn't want to "offend" any liberal
who might come to look at it to the point of shitting themselves and running to
authorities and reporting me. WTF is wrong with people these days?
