Nightmare Is Over,' EPA Repeals WOTUS

Water quality issues require determination of a baseline and continuous monitoring. I doubt there are ANY states that have the resources to adequately accomplish that.

I'll give you a couple of examples in my state. Lake Coeur d'Alene in north Idaho, a perfectly beautiful lake. Lined with homes, both residential and vacation. Guess where their waste goes? There was a massive die off of swans near there this spring. Now, do you think Idaho has near the resources to tackle the problem?

https://www.hcn.org/issues/51.11/pollution-a-dangerous-cocktail-threatens-the-gem-of-north-idaho

Same with two other water bodies. Lake Lowell in SW Idaho and Lake Cascade in central Idaho.

Lake Lowell is at the tail end of the New York Canal, which is a major source of irrigation water. It originates from the Boise River just a couple miles from my home and is very clean. By the time it gets to Lake Lowell 30 miles away, it is too polluted for swimming

The same goes for Lake Cascade.

Note the phrase in this report:

"Remember: Only a fraction of all water bodies in Idaho are monitored due to limited physical and monetary resources."

Irrigation runoff and tailwater conveyance systems which are in direct hydrologic communication with a water of the U.S. should be subject to Clean Water Act authorities. A lake most certainly is a navigable waterbody, hence a WOTUS.

Here is where the problem comes in: when the Clean Water Act was crafted and adopted in 1972, the agricultural industry convinced congress to exempt agriculture from the legal accountability with the requirements of the Clean Water Act, at least from the water quality angle. Hydromodification I think is separate issue. Drafts of the law did not exempt agriculture from water quality compliance, so there was obviously a sustained lobbying effort to get agriculture off the hook. The only way Clean Water Act addresses agriculture is through voluntary compliance and giving them NPS grants for watershed improvement efforts.

That's where state authorities have to come into play, IMO. Since agriculture is largely off the hook from the water quality perspective under the CWA framework, the only tangible option at this point is to have states adopt enforceable requirements for agriculture to protect water quality.

Idaho is some god-foresaken wilderness that is only good for potatos.
Obviously you have never been to Idaho.
what population do you have there?
do you even have a million?
About 1.8 million actually, most in the Treasure Valley area (around Boise, Nampa, and on into Idaho Falls). Besides potatoes, Idaho produces sugar beets, wheat, barley, cheese, beef, chicken, and alfalfa (animal feed), and various fruits and other vegetables. It's high tech sector makes inkjet and laser printers and memory as well as water cooling systems for PC's. It is also a producer of explosives and fireworks. One of the larger supplier of fireworks and their components is in Idaho.

The State also boasts some spectacular hiking, river rafting, hunting and fishing. Snowmobiles, dirt bikes, and RVs are also popular, as well as some of them being built in Idaho.

Far from God forsaken. Oh, BTW, 3/4 of the residents there are Christian, about half of the population is Mormon. The rest are primarily Catholic.

For us normal and populous states the waters are monitored, and clean for the most part.
Where the states can't do it -the EPA has Superfunds
Idaho is a normal State. It has a constitution and everything. It also has water monitoring conducted mostly by local communities with some conducted by the State.

No wonder he was reluctant to tell us where he lives, now we know he's just a very angry spudbasher.

One way to put it! Actually, he even described what voting district he is in. It's quite small, putting him somewhere in an area of just several blocks in Boise. It is next to the Boise river on the south side of it.
The current legislature in Idaho is 80% Republican party in both houses. Why Domer feels this is a liberal haven is beyond me.

A recent piece of legislation introduced by the Democrats in the House in Idaho would've banned the Electoral College (in violation of the U.S. Constitution and the constitution of the State of Idaho, and effectively removing representation of Idaho in electing a President). Down in flames of course.

Hello anonymous,

The action officially ends an Obama-era action called a “power grab” and sets the stage for a new rule that will provide much-needed regulatory certainty for farmers, home builders, and property owners (that's me) nationwide.

Just saw this. Thank you DJT.

"The action officially ends an Obama-era action called a “power grab” and sets the stage for a new rule that will provide much-needed regulatory certainty for farmers, home builders, and property owners nationwide."

What about people who need clean water? Don't they have any rights? Or is it only the rich and property owners whose rights should be considered.

What about the environment?

Should anyone be able to pollute at will on his own property, not caring who or what likes downstream?

Regulating for clean water is no nightmare.

Failing to do so is the nightmare scenario.

They already have. They monitor their own lakes and rivers as well.

False dichotomy fallacy.

Yo have no clue what you're talking about. Michigan couldn't even monitor a major city's water.

Dumbfuck.
