And now the real circus will begin;

Senate Republicans should not let this crisis go to waste. Just hold a trial, and require that all hearsay witnesses be excluded. That will prevent Dems from being able to call a single witness, and we can spend two months talking about Burisma and the Durham investigation.

Why not lol?

We’ve spent months telling the impeachment enthusiasts that Trump’s defense pivots around the Bidens and Burisma so what better time to put the ‘Bidens are innocent narrative’ to the truth-test.

Let’s just go ahead and do it all at once and put everything on the table.

Let’s lance the boil and see what drains out of it. It will be cleansing.

If congress adopted evidence rules as a court of law it would at least limit the mountains of laws created.

You are shortchanging the exceptions to hearsay, by the way. Now that would be one boring trial and would take months
and I don't think dragging this out with motion practice is what Trump wants. He intends to rip off a bandaid, claim victory
and resume lying and cheating all the time. Cuz that is the message your senate will send. Cheating in our elections
using our tax money is AOK..... using foreigners under duress to mount bogus investigations our venerable cops blew out of
the water as a Russian farce? so much the better, eh comrad?

The main reason is that the Fake News media will have to cover the trial, and their viewers will be exposed to some/all of the testimony.

Forget motions to dismiss. Drag this mother out with as much testimony as possible. The worst thing that could happen to the Democrats is for this trial to be going-on anywhere near the election.

You should be. His own party kept him from testifying for Mueller because they were so afraid he'd flip out and go off-script. Even his written answers were carefully edited.
Mueller was setting a perjury trap. Look at all the process crimes for "lying" he got on rather trivial matters

Oh come on, it's was plainly obvious that they just wanted him to do their job for them. They had precious little so hoped he would give them what they wanted. Trump knew that and wouldn't play ball.

And he looks even more justified in not playing ball since the Horowitz’s report.

I think it would be hilarious if Durham went after Mueller for suborning perjury.

Of all the Trump-Russia rumors, insinuations and falsehoods – from secret payments for shadowy hackers, to videotaped prostitutes with active bladders, to a clandestine rendezvous with Kremlin figures in Prague – the supposedly pro-Russia Ukraine platform alteration stands out.
It seemed to offer early, public, concrete evidence of an actual bending of prospective U.S. policy to suit Moscow. The false narrative is also significant because it was initially pushed not by Democrats, but by associates of Republican Sen. John McCain and other so-called Never Trumpers.
As a bipartisan red flag, it helped build momentum around a narrative of Trump treachery with, then as now, Ukraine playing a central role.
It also shows how the Russia and Ukraine controversies were linked from the beginning by Trump’s foes.(Manafort)

Rachel Hoff, an anti-Trump GOP convention delegate, was the first person interviewed by Robert Mueller's team.
She was a source for a Washington Post column saying the Trump campaign “gutted” the GOP’s platform plank on Ukraine to favor Russia.

This episode loomed so large that the first person Mueller’s team interviewed after taking over the Russia investigation in May 2017 was Rachel Hoff, who was serving as McCain’s policy adviser on the Senate Armed Services Committee. Like her boss, Hoff was no fan of President Trump. Agents sought to confirm with her reports that the Trump campaign had “gutted” the GOP’s platform plank on Ukraine to favor Russia during the party's convention in Cleveland in early July 2016.

As a disgruntled convention delegate, Hoff got the story started...

I stand by my opinion that if a person hasn't done anything wrong, he can't be caught in a perjury trap. And a process crime is still a crime. Capone was caught for a process crime.

I think the Russian Hoaxers knew it was a hoax along—how could they not lol?

IOW, they knew collusion was a long shot but provoking Trump into an obstruction charge would be relatively easy. It’s corrupt as hell and they should go to jail for it—but they had a good plan. They just needed an excuse to do ‘an investigation’ and get Trump to ‘obstruct it’—then impeach him for it.

Bingo, Trump problem solved.

Wait a minute, are you saying that Russian involvement in the 2016 election was all just a hoax? that they did it to benefit Trump was a hoax? that the Russians had extensive contacts with the Trump campaign was a hoax? what specifically was a hoax?
