I think they could have presented the case of bribery in a simple enough way. Trump withheld money in return for a personal favor in the form of kneecapping Biden, simple as that.
And they should have known that Republicans, both politicians and regular citizens, don't care how Trump gets reelected as long as he gets reelected.

The problem is the person he tried to bribe is not going to testify, and his (not sworn, but politically calculated) statements suggest there was no bribery at all. He has made it clear he cannot become involved in American politics.
