China had a brutal lockdown, more brutal and innovative than anything America can do. China also had innovative contact tracing, more innovative and brutal than anything America can do.
It will probably not matter in the long run. A second wave will hit China. They are doing a valiant job of holding back the infections coming from the USA, but as it spreads to countries in Asia, they will not be able to hold back people moving on foot. There are almost certainly places where the disease is hiding in China.
I still think we have a lot to learn from China, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan when it comes to contact tracing. We cannot be as brutal as they are, but we can be as innovative as they are. All we need is better leadership.
