Those countries may not have been just like Nazi Germany, but they still had Fascist dictatorships. The fact that there have been dictatorships in Italy, France, Austria, Spain, and Hungary shows that Catholic Righties are susceptible to Fascism just like Protestant Righties. The Spanish Right sucked up to Franco just like today's American Right sucks up to Trump.
Even today, look at where Fascism is rising in Europe. Hungary already has a dictatorship again.
I think arguments can be made for Catholicism or Protestantism being worse when it comes to resisting Fascism, but at the end of the day, religion in general is bad for us, good for Fascism.
Most Hungarians I've met have been good people.
My best friend for a long time was born in Hungary.
His Hungarian father swam across the Danube to escape Communism in the 1980's, WITH Machine gunners shooting at him.
By the 2000's he admitted that the USA isn't much better, or worse than Hungary.
He lost his house, maybe that's why.
But, he's not the only one I've heard from that says Communism wasn't much better, or worse than the USA.
While, I'm anti-Communist, a lot of Americans exaggerate Communism.
