Are you now saying leaders should have shut things down sooner? Because you have seemed to be saying that the shutdowns were the result of an overreaction.
Which is it?
The shutdowns are a result of overreaction.

You believe people staying in their homes and businesses shutting down amidst one of the most contagiious viruses the world has seen has had minimal effect?
I believe Trump did a good thing shutting down travel from China (partially) in January. After that, he held rallies & golfed, and assured everyone that he had contained things because of that one action and that our 15 cases would go down to zero. Local leadership did the work on the shutdown, which Trump has been all over the place on, from measured support to his "liberate!" tweets.
He's been a terrible leader for this kind of crisis. The opposite of steady & strong.
He WASN'T wrong. Closing down the country is to stop Democrats from lying him out of office. You don't get to lie and then demand that you be rewarded for lying by your opponent automatically surrendering the presidency. That's the logic of a petty child, not a thinking adult.
They may claim otherwise, but all the actors were in the same boat at the same time.
Trump, Fauci, Pelosi—who was encouraging people to crowd into China town in January. DeBlasio was doing likewise in NYC. Cuomo apparently didn’t do too hot preparing for things.
I think singling Trump out for criticism is dictated by politics. Check that, I know it is.
Trump didn't shut down the economy. The governors did. They were reacting to (and sometimes feeding) the fear mongering from the Democrats and other liberals.
Nobody singled him out (except Democrats). But he was the one in charge who made the decision to declare the emergency. If the virus was not that serious why did he take such an action?
He said he had "all authority" to make such decisions and supported their actions. You supported his claim that he had that authority.
Night has a point.
Ultimately, the shutdowns are on the governors.
How often is flu the second leading cause of death in the United States?
So he closed down the country with all the damage to the economy for purely political reasons? A good leader would do what is right for the country rather than be cowed into pleasing the Democrats. If he refused to close down the economy and he was right about the virus not being serious he would be a hero and the country would be better off.

I agree. I disagreed with Night that the president had "all authority" over the issue.
The truth has set you free, pervert.I really am a racist *giggle*
The truth has set you free, pervert.
Now get your stupid ass back to Mother Jones. They have your next assignment.
I know right? It's a sight to behold.
The Chinese are to blame, Democrats definitely over reacted and it's not very dangerous as studies have shown especially the Stanford one. I doubt if the death rate turns out to be anymore than 0.1 or the same as flu. Walt Shitman is an alarmist, then again you probably are as well.
Trump didn't close down the economy. The governors did.
Declaring a national emergency didn't close down anything.
The President has all the authority he needs to force the governors to relinquish their power grab.
