I must admit that I am only a democrat locally. I believe in public, government funded education, a safety net for the vulnerable in our society with strong oversight to detect those who would scam the system (I’ve seen them my whole life...the able bodied should work), certain public services that only the government can provide, sound infrastructure paid for by both the governments and the users... All of that does indeed require a level of taxation higher than Republicans are willing to impose.
On the other hand, I am adamantly opposed to abortion and stand strongly against any further restrictions or anything to raise the costs to enjoying our 2nd amendment rights. I believe in America first in all things. I am opposed to any gravitation towards becoming a society that resembles many of those in Europe.
So when given a choice between what the Democrats at the national level gives me as a candidate and even a coarse and vulgar character like Trump (in the Republican primary he was at the bottom of the list of who I might have voted for...but I couldn’t vote in the R primary because I’m a Democrat) if I vote at all it won’t be for the Democrat.
Fortunately at the local and state level I have many Democratic candidates to vote (who have similar political beliefs) for but it’s getting tougher for them to win because of the other side painting our local candidates with a national brush and people are lapping it up.
