A vaccine may not be necessary. There’s a group of intensive care docs from different parts of the country that are coordinating on work with corticosteroids to treat the COVID symptoms. They suspect it’s the not the COVID virus, itself, that is killing people.

It’s the immune response to the virus that causes a severe inflammatory process in the lungs. The so called cytokine storm is what is killing people.

This dovetails with some it’s other characteristics: it explains the riddle of how a ‘deadly’ virus can leave so many people with virtually no symptoms—it’s because the virus itself is essentially harmless *unless* it infects someone with a hyperactive immune system.

At any rate, instead of trying to beat the virus these docs are going after the run away immune system and they’ve had success doing it.

I think they were building off unfinished SARS -but the viral biology mentioned in the OP is beyond me

Doesn't have to be billions ffs, you immunise the vulnerable first and allow the fit, young and healthy to achieve herd immunity.
