Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert and a member of the White House coronavirus task force, said he plans to tell a Senate panel on Tuesday that there will be “needless” fatalities if the country reopens too soon amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“The major message that I wish to convey to the Senate [Health, Labor and Pensions] committee ... is the danger of trying to open the country prematurely,” Fauci wrote in an email to The New York Times.

“If we skip over the checkpoints in the guidelines to: ‘Open America Again,’ then we risk the danger of multiple outbreaks throughout the country. This will not only result in needless suffering and death, but would actually set us back on our quest to return to normal," he added.

Fauci is one of four administration officials appearing remotely as witnesses to answer senators' questions regarding the pandemic and state openings. In his email, Fauci referred to the White House guidelines for states to reopen nonessential businesses.

States across the country have started reopening, and in some cases states have not met the recommended requirement of having a 14-day downward trajectory in documented COVID-19 cases before starting gradual plans....

CDC Guidelines To Help States Reopen ‘Won’t See The Light Of Day’ After Trump Administration Shelves Plan

The 17-page report was researched and written to help faith leaders, business owners, educators and state and local officials as they begin to ease restrictions. But the Trump administration wants to shift the responsibility of lifting shutdowns to governors' shoulders. President Donald Trump urged Americans to think of themselves as "warriors" as he continued to push the message that the country needs to reopen. He also dismissed the complaints of an ousted official Trump calls "disgruntled."

Tell us oh great pandemic wizard. How long should we keep the economy shut down? Until our industry and businesses file chapter 11 and all those unemployed Americans file bankruptcy and go on welfare? The liberal utopia.

Most States/localities are following their own plans...what's best for the people who live there. as it should be....It's unfortunate that some governors who are power hungry...but not surprising....

Q

I have to wonder why it is OK for him to testify for the Senate but not the House.

The dozy bitch wants to wait until there is a vaccine, because she is scared! What did she do in 1968-69 when Hong Flu killed over 100,000 in the US alone and anything up to 4 million worldwide?

No one is suggesting not reopening. Fauci is talking about rushing it - skipping over checkpoints recommended by the CDC.

Why even have a CDC if we don't at least try to follow those to an extent? The idea is to prevent another spike & having to start at square 1 again. Would you rather just go with a politician's "gut" as a guideline?

Oh I agree and the doc is correct but as we reopen the risks versus the gains will have to be weighed. I don't think anyone doesn't expect spikes as we slowly return to normal.

I feel like I have no choice but to let the pro's decide. I try to educate myself on pandemics and risk v. cost, but there is so much conflicting and crazy information out there.

There are times when I agree w/ those on the right who see this as an extreme overreaction, and times when I agree w/ those who put life above all else.

The only thing I agree on consistently happens to be the 1 thing I have ever agreed w/ Trump on - at some point, the cure becomes worse than the disease. I just don't know when that point is. With 30 million jobs lost, I've gotta believe we're close to it.

You THINK it is an over exxagertion? What if you are wrong? Tell the survivors of the "excess" dead--whoops, sorry, no harm, no foul?

Long term lockdowns are simply unsustainable. It can’t be done.

Jobs are just part of it. Wait till the breadlines start. There’s a reason gun sales are up.

Things could get ‘different’. Trump recognizes it. Fauci is an epidemiologist.

It's Fauci's job to make recommendations based on healthcare. He's doing fine at that.

It's not his job to consider the economic impact of those recommendations, or the myriad of other factors involved.
