Diversity Makes Greatness
A second wave being primarily rural is becoming an extremely high probability.
I see it as being driven by a growing push to 'open up,' and great resistance to social distancing safety measures which are increasingly being seen as 'sissy liberal' measures by conservative rural people who have not yet seen big numbers in their region.
Here is an interesting facet:
Country people are not all conservative. Conservatives usually win rural elections, and during campaign season, nearly all yard signs are for conservative candidates. But rural elections do not reflect the proportions of conservative yard signs seen. Something is going on here. It is the 'small town effect.' Since everybody knows everybody, those who would go against the status quo and display a liberal yard sign would face being shunned and possible retribution in the small social circles in rural regions. 'People talk,' as they say. And they talk about others. Liberals tend to stay quiet in the country. They don't wear their political leanings on their arms.
But now, it will begin to look increasingly like a matter of life or death. If others are not being safe, using face masks, keeping distance, it becomes even more important for those who wish to protect themselves to take these measures.
Concerned liberals will have to wear masks in stores and in public to protect themselves. And that means they can no longer 'lay low' about their politics. Conservatives who want to make fun of liberals will suddenly get some insight into which of their neighbors and relatives do actually vote liberal.
That advent could prove very interesting in regions where conservatives felt comfortable to be outspoken and open about their politics, but liberals did not. Now, there is no hiding political persuasion. It will almost be a case of looking around the store and simply taking note of who is wearing a mask and who is not.
Some liberals will be aware of this effect and become torn between safety and small town reputation. Some will choose safety, others will not.
Either way, the disease is likely to spread more rapidly in small towns because of reluctance to adhere to safety measures.
And if people take a 'wait-and-see' attitude, that won't work. Because of the incubation period, by the time people are feeling the effects of COVID-19 infection, they have already been contagious for a while, and only then do they find out what they should have done two weeks ago.

Other than the city of Marquette, which contains NMU, the rest of this area is pretty conservative. Almost everyone wears masks in the stores. I have seen a few older white males and a couple of very elderly ppl who weren't wearing them, but the majority are behaving in a safe manner. I'll continue to pretend that those who don't put on a mask have medical reasons why not, even though it's more likely that they are just suffering from defiant disorder. lol
I wish the media would quit giving so much attention to the Covidiot Crusaders. They are a very small minority. Just because you're stupid and loud doesn't mean you deserve recognition or publicity.

They're stupid looking.

I still believe that Trump and Pence have both tested positive, are asymptomatic, but are hiding their test results from the public because of what it means for them politically.
