Atlanta Police Chief Resigns After Officer Shoots and Kills Black Man

How Rayshard Brooks Was Fatally Shot by the Atlanta Police

Officer Brosnan and Officer Rolfe are at the scene for at least 25 minutes before the shooting happens. They perform a sobriety test on Mr. Brooks, as we can see in this video filmed by a witness, who was in line at the drive-through.

11:22 p.m. According to the G.B.I., Mr. Brooks failed the sobriety test, and the officers attempted to take him into custody. Less than a minute later, Mr. Brooks was shot.

Video filmed by another witness shows Mr. Brooks grappling with the officers on the ground. He seizes a Taser from Officer Brosnan, stands up and punches Officer Rolfe. Officer Rolfe fires his Taser gun. The darts hit Mr. Brooks, and Officer Rolfe continues trying to stun him.

And since in my lifetime ALL the white drunks at Mardi Gras or Spring Break who fight the cops and run are not gunned down. If you've got serious stats to the contrary, I'd like to see them.

The guy did punch the cop. But cops coming with pistols and the belief they can use them makes a dangerous situation. Police coming unarmed to pick up a drunk could have detained the guy without death.

Cops come unarmed.. is there a crystal ball the cops can get that lets them know people do not have guns on them

It's enough that the guy was a belligerent drunk (he fell asleep in his car in the Wendy's drive thru and was being arrested initially for DUI). He fought with the police who apparently either tased him or tried to. He then got ahold of one of their tasers and either pointed or pointed and fired it at the officers.
Tasing him clear was not going to stop him from resisting arrest, fighting with two police officers, and trying to escape. He clearly posed a threat to the officers so they shot him.
The what-if's here include the officer's thinking What if he gets my pistol next? Or, in the heat of things, He's trying to kill me. I think those thoughts are certainly and likely possible with the officers given what the video shows.

I have been unable to find any background on Brooks as to previous arrests or not. Not one article mentions this either way which seems curious. Brooks does say he doesn't want to be "violated" by being arrested in the video. That would tend to indicate he's on probation and a DUI would send him back to prison as that's usually what that means when someone says that in the context of what's going on in the video.

He disarmed an officer of his taser and pointed it at him.

I know what he did! I saw the whole thing in the clips just like you did.

But, once he fired his taser- it was rendered useless.

The police are not allowed to just shoot someone, just because they tried to escape, and were running away from with or without a taser, or regardless whether he fired it or not.

Policemen are not public executioners!

WTF are you thinking?
