Getting back to your original claim - you said the Gettysburg Battlefield should not be associated with a broader educational purpose about the values and moral principles underlying the battle.

As President Lincoln himself articulated- the values the United States American soldiers were fighting for were freedom and preservation of the Union.

I personally enjoy the Gettysburg Memorial. But any attempt to portray the values American soldiers were fighting for, on equal footing with the values Confederate militia were fighting for is a profoundly dishonest distortion of history.

And it is a severe disservice to the United States American soldiers who served under our flag, and gave their lives to preserve the Union.
