This is not complex. Europe is reordering its supply chains. They are deciding how trade will work for decades to come. And Americans are not even being allowed a seat at the table. If I see a business opportunity to export goods and/or services to Europe, I am unable to travel there and take advantage of that opportunity.
Lets take a real word example. There is an attempt to make a software equivalent (with generic hardware) for 5G hardware. This could be huge for America, because we are very good at software. But it would require travel to Europe (difficult), and attending standards meetings that Huawei also participates in. That last one is illegal for American citizens and permanent residents without trump's pre-approval, which would be nearly impossible to get.
So an industry that will be worth over a trillion dollars is shutoff to America. But trump has secured government mandated soybean exports. Which do you think if a higher margin, more first world industry, 5G telecommunications or soybeans?
The Chinese have all but eliminated Covid-19 from their country, so the EU feels comfortable letting them into the EU. Meanwhile, red states are spreading Covid-19 out of control in the USA.
And the Chinese started opening up a month ago. They are less of a lockdown than the USA is now.
Requiring the Chinese to only buy soybeans and stuff like that, while allowing them to block all sorts of first world industries for the USA. It is just crazy.

Isn't this typical of the weirdoes! The reason for banning foreign visitors (unless you're Johnson) is that they're infectious. The chances of Chinese people being infectious are now small, whereas your Fatman has seen to it that American are.

The ban is being lifted on China and many other countries because they adequately mitigated the risk of transmission and infection.
The ban on the US is under consideration to be extended into the future indefinitely -- because your fat ass President has done a pitiful job addressing the risk of transmission.
