1/3 of children tested for COVID in FL are testing positive

Kids are usually asymptomatic positive. The few that have symptoms, recover. Get over it.

We really do not know. They may recover, or they may have later symptoms. They may not spread it much, or they might spread it a lot.

Sorry, but there are not definite answers yet.

There is a definite possibility that supposedly asymptomatic carriers could have long term damage.

You have school-aged children...what's the plan for them in the fall? Are you happy with your local system's decision?

So much for the whole "kids can't catch or spread it" thing Conservatives were wrong about, just like "herd immunity", drinking bleach, and hydroxy.

Almost one-third of Florida children tested are positive for the coronavirus

Here is a graphic to help out the fact-challenged.

This isn't about the children...it never is with them....

Really? Speak for yourself, "teacher." For the rest of us with children and grandchildren, it is absolutely all about the children -- as well as the adults who will be teaching them, and the adults outside of school that they will come in contact with.

I am terrified for my youngest daughter, who as you know is a real special ed teacher. She has MS. Tell us how you think she can teach her students in person and still avoid exposure. Tell us how her own daughter, who should be starting kindergarten this fall, can keep from catching the virus and bringing it home.

So you don't think COVID is a big deal, yet you think it's a big enough deal that you don't want to catch it.

Understood.

I also believe my chances of being struck by a vehicle while walking on a busy interstate in California are not high.......that doesn't mean I plan to go to California......

This isn't about the children you know....or everyone would be focused on working together to get schools operational in the fall...as safely as possible....

They are continuing their education through the Summer online. It looks like that will continue even further into the Fall.

I have always had such high hopes for online education, and it has always underperformed. It is not doing much better now. So I am very upset with the current situation.

But I do not have a better solution. Maybe it would be OK to open schools, but the information is incomplete. Now that trump has politicized the science, we may not be getting better information for a long time. It is a terrible situation.

Didn't trump promise us we would get tired of his winning? This does not feel like winning.

Online learning is certainly not the answer...Just focus on helping your local system do what's best for the kids....blaming the president is just a complete waste of time and energy....

It is about containing the disease, which is in part about the children. But it is also about the adults.

If the RWers would stop making mask wearing a "freedom" issue and put the damned things on, we could bring down the numbers and get things opened again -- including the schools. But nope, they're too fucking selfish to do that.

My youngest daughter is a early childhood, special ed teacher. She was very frustrated with the online teaching experience too. She said that only a few of her students' parents bothered to work with their children on the activities and worksheets that she and her teaching assistant provided. (The assistant personally delivered them to their homes!) She also made daily videos with learning activities, and story reading time, but few bothered to view them. Parents need to step up if we are going to make this work!

It is, and should be...just not the focus in threads/posts here...I would hope it's different IRL....

Helping your children with their schoolwork is hard. And Trumptards aren't willing to work hard for anything. They want it handed to them. We are in the midst of the greatest public health crisis in our lifetimes. Americans used to tackle these problems but pulling together and making a shared sacrifice. Trump supporters have no interest in working with others. They have no interest in being inconvenienced. 'Don't Tread on Me'. Which originally was about facing down a tyrannical government, has now becoming about putting two straps over your ears when you go into the grocery store. Or spending some time helping your kids so they can stay home which helps stop the spread of the virus. In one of this fireside chats, Roosevelt gave an update on the war in Europe, and he asked Americans to have a map in front of them so they could visualize what he was saying. And everyone did. Trumptards would say 'I'm not buying a fucking map'. Unless Trump asked them to of course. They are the antithesis of every single thing that made America great.

Ra-men.

If we had behaved like this in WW2, we would all be speaking German now.
