Not sure about Antifa but a lot of BLM members are smart. And if they're "Marxists", they sure know a lot about economics.
What makes them smart?
Not rioting and looting for one. And if they are Marxists, as some love to claim, that would mean they know what it means and they read Karl Marx/Engels and know a lot about economics. Can't have both ways.

Knowing about Marx is different from being knowledgeable about economics in general. The majority of people educated in economics view Marx in terms of his influence but don't typically side with his viewpoint, mostly because it's outdated and utopian. So, actual Marxists are idealistic at best and deluded at worst.

Made up of people. This is the the dark underside of capitalism: a consumerist society which from the crib until retirement is driven to "Buy! Buy! Buy!" Over a few hundred years it turns the mortal sin of Greed into a popular goal. If people have a shot to sue someone with spin and bullshit, they'll take it. Such lust for a quick buck is more common than good for our national character.
If Sandmann hadn't been publicly demonized, I'd agree with you. In this case, the media deserves to be sued.
On its second attempt in as many weeks, the Portland City Council passed a budget Wednesday that will reroute more than $15 million from the police bureau to other city programs and initiatives. The cuts include disbanding police units that work in schools, investigate gun violence and patrol the regional public transit system.

You realize that the media was baited? Someone in Brazil released the video without context at all and they bit the bait.
Lesson learned.
Why would you want to remove cops from schools? School shootings aren't common, but they're common enough that having armed security there is needed. As far as gun violence goes, Portland isn't as bad as St. Louis, but it's not that great either. This particular gun violence policing group received criticism for focusing on blacks more than others, but frankly, black people are a disproportionate part of gun violence in Portland, just like they are in most major cities. The problem isn't the police -- it's the black community itself.

He was in the news. People are either heroes or villains. He's grasping at the brass ring. You don't really think his lawyers are working for free do you? Much less Nikki is paying them from his lawn mowing money.
So if the media demonized you, would you just roll over?
I wouldn't be in a position to be "demonized". I don't go to protest rallies like Nikki and his friends did.
