What is privilege?

Socialism doesn't work and I know you disagree.

Because Canada doesn't work? The UK doesn't work? Denmark doesn't work? South Korea doesn't work? Israel doesn't work? Japan doesn't work?

Do they all know that?

Are you claiming the faltering economies of Greece, Italy and Ireland a few years ago were Socialist successes?

No. They're capitalist failures, specifically the European Central Bank's failures.

And there are plenty of socialist countries that didn't have faltering economies, like South Korea, Germany, Canada, Belgium, Luxembourg (rated #1 place to live in the world), Scandinavia, Holland, etc.

But you never mention those as having faltering economies because of "socialism". How come? How come you don't talk about those countries? And do you honestly think that our current system works?????? A system that has produced a recession, 40M out of work, and 30 million uninsured? How's that working out for us? Or are you just going to pretend none of that happened?

"I have never, never, never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever been in a single debate on JPP with either a Conservative or bOtHsIdErIsT where they didn't devolve the debate into a collection of vague, ambiguous, and laughably unverifiable anecdotes."

I stand by that comment because it's true, and I even gave you examples.

What you haven't done is given me examples that prove otherwise.

So why is it incumbent on me to provide proof, but not you? Because you don't act in good faith, duh.

re you claiming the faltering economies of Greece, Italy and Ireland a few years ago were Socialist successes?

Interesting you bring up Ireland because that country had cut its taxes so low that it became an offshore haven for multinationals. It didn't last long, though, because the Irish realized pretty quickly that cutting taxes forces budget deficits which causes haphazard spending cuts that end up tanking the economy. It's what happened in the US during Bush the Dumber, happened in Kansas during Brownback, and recently happened in Ireland.

For years, Conservatives held up Ireland as some sort of "free market" blah blah to follow. Guess it didn't work out, huh, if you're saying Ireland sucks now?

It's not impossible to make that claim...whether or not that claim is true...well...isn't that the heart of the issue?

I don't think there's a brain injury that causes you to consciously choose to lie and embellish on the internet for effect.

I don't really care how old someone is...what I care about is whether or not they used their time on this earth to gain perspective. Unfortunately, most older people don't evolve their perspectives.

But I think that is wholly different than someone exaggerating their own personal station to impress or silence or gaslight people on anonymous message boards. No one does that by accident. It's entirely intentional.
Yet you continue to believe they are liars meaning people who consciously and with full presence of mind intend to decieve. If you're as old and wise as you claim to be then you should be old enough to know better.

The fact you are claiming those are socialist countries is fascinating. Do you have a source that labels them as socialist?

My source doesn't. Example:
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/296.html#UK

Ah, so what you're now saying is that the type of society we want to emulate through programs like universal health care and universal public education are, in fact, not socialist (weird, those are socialist programs in those countries, which would make them socialists, right?) because of those things, therefore you have nothing to worry about when it comes to the "socialism" we want here.

So the definition of "socialist" seems fungible to you.

So OK, so then when you claim we want socialism here, you're lying. You're lying because you know that what we are talking about is socializing certain parts of our country and economy, just like they do in other countries. What is the difference between Greece and Germany? Nothing when it comes to socialism. Both countries have socialist programs, yet you only call the failure "socialist". Even though Greece's failure is much more complex than mere "socialism", specifically having to do with the Eurozone currency, the European Central Bank, and the EU.

But you devolve it to mere "socialism" because you just don't want to put in the effort to be informed on this subject, and it's easier for someone like you to just carelessly lob "socialism" as the excuse for an issue which is far, far more complex than Greece's welfare state -which bears a striking resemblance to Germany and Canada's welfare state. But again, you wouldn't know that because you aren't putting in the effort. Which is disappointing.

Yeah...have you not been paying attention to the examples I've shared?

Yes, I have. Why do you ask?

Obviously you don't know the difference betweeen a socialist nation and a capitalist nation with social programs to help the elderly, the infirm and minors.

So the definition of "socialist" seems fungible to you.

LOL. I was wondering when you'd devolve in screaming "liar!" and putting words in my mouth. This is why I see no difference between you and the RWNJs except polarity.

So ummm...your link also doesn't call Greece "socialist" either, yet you called it socialist on this thread:

And it doesn't even call the country's economy socialist:

So how come you did that? How come you lied like this? Did you think I wouldn't check your source? I mean, I know you don't check other people's sources, so maybe you didn't expect I would either. How'd that assumption work out?

Because you're trying to assign failures to socialism in your attempt to attack the integrity of the concept.

You literally called Greece a "socialist failure" in your post, then you said other countries aren't socialist, holding up the CIA factbook which, it turns out, doesn't call Greece socialist either.

So this is an example of the sloppy work you consistently do here. Sloppiness borne out of laziness and contempt. You're lazy by nature, and you hold contempt for people who aren't. So that's why you lie, that's why you exaggerate, that's why you embellish, just like you did when you called Greece a "socialist failure".

Next time, check your source and vet it before dropping it unsolicited into a thread...chances are you didn't with this, and I'll make hay about it.

Yes, I have. Why do you ask?

Because it doesn't seem like it. You held up Greece as an example of the failure of socialism, then when I asked about Canada and Germany, you said they weren't socialist and you linked to the CIA world factbook to prove it.

Well that CIA world factbook of yours also doesn't call Greece "socialist" and in fact states, openly and in the first sentence of the economy section, that Greece has a capitalist economy and is a parliamentary democracy.

"Socialism" is nowhere to be found on Greece's page at all.

So what gives? Why are you calling Greece socialist, but not Germany, and not when your own link doesn't conform to what you're saying?

Obviously you don't know the difference betweeen a socialist nation and a capitalist nation with social programs to help the elderly, the infirm and minors.

Well, you're the one who is trying to construct the straw man that we want some form of socialism that only you can articulate, and not the kind of socialism found around the world, including in Germany and Greece, both countries that are parliamentary democracies, both countries that have capitalist economies.

Remember, you tried to prove Germany wasn't socialist by holding up the CIA world factbook which also says Greece isn't socialist either.

So what gives? Why are you doing this? What are you hoping to accomplish? Because all you're doing is proving you rush through responses in a sloppy, sloppy way.

LOL. I was wondering when you'd devolve in screaming "liar!" and putting words in my mouth. This is why I see no difference between you and the RWNJs except polarity.

You made this about yourself when you chose to respond with your bullshit posts, pal.

I haven't put words in your mouth. Rather, you've put words into mine! Namely that you say I want a completely socialist country, which *checks notes* I've never pushed for or said here at all.

So what you do to overcome that is you try to cast me as an ignoramus who just doesn't understand what socialism is, and that, loser, is a form of gaslighting. And it also seems to indicate that YOU don't know what socialism is, since you're calling Greece a sociailst failure, yet your own CIA world factbook says Greece has a capitalist economy.

So Greece's problems weren't borne about by its welfare state, they were borne about by Greece's capitalist economy, which you didn't think Greece had until just now.

So ummm...your link also doesn't call Greece "socialist" either, yet you called it socialist on this thread....

...You're lazy by nature, and you hold contempt for people who aren't. So that's why you lie, that's why you exaggerate, that's why you embellish, just like you did when you called Greece a "socialist failure"...
Correct because Socialism doesn't work. It needs capitalism to fund social programs which is what we do in the United States.

The problem with Greece and other countries is that their social program costs exceeded their capitalist revenue. It's unsurprising you do not see this point.

Thanks for the name calling and false accusations; it's just more evidence you are no different than Truth Detector, Teflon Don and Grokmaster.

Correct because Socialism doesn't work.

But it does work in Germany which you said yourself has socialist policies, even though the country has a capitalist economy and is a parliamentary democracy.

So it wasn't "socialism" that failed Greece, was it? It was something else.

Could it have to do with the fact that Greece doesn't have a sovereign currency and uses the Euro, or that Greece had to borrow from the European Central Bank to cover the deficits that came from the failure of the capitalist economy that tax cuts and deregulation wrecked beginning in 2007 and extending through much of the 2010's???

This is not a debate you are going to win...just letting you know upfront.

The problem with Greece and other countries is that their social program costs exceeded their capitalist revenue. It's unsurprising you do not see this point.

But why did that happen? Because the global economy collapsed thanks to tax cuts and deregulation, and never recovered. So Greece, whose economy relies heavily on tourism, saw revenues drop because of the economic collapse, had to borrow to cover its deficits, but couldn't generate the revenue (again, through mostly tourism which took a hit during the Great Recession) and had to borrow more. The second borrowing were at markedly higher interest rates, which just dug Greece's hole even deeper. That remedy is not borne of socialism...if it was, then the EU would have simply bailed out Greece...the remedy is borne of capitalism, namely that Greece borrows from the ECB instead.

Germany has just as robust a welfare state as Greece, yet you call Greece "socialist" but not Germany.

That's weird.

Thanks for the name calling and false accusations

1. I didn't call you a name. I said you were lazy. I've shown remarkable restraint with you here. I've coddled you with my responses. I've been treating you much better and way differently than I would normally treat someone I observe to be acting in bad faith.

2. You called Greece a failure of socialism, yet the CIA world factbook you used to prove Germany wasn't socialist doesn't call Greece socialist either. So by calling Greece "socialist failure" or whatever, would be you embellishing, wouldn't it?
