Actor says when he was younger he wasn’t told Palestinians lived on land that became the Jewish state

Seth Rogen has said he was “fed a huge amount of lies about Israel” as a young Jewish person, stoking controversy around the country’s sometimes fraught relationship with many North American Jews.

The Canadian-US actor, who attended Jewish camp and whose parents met on a kibbutz in Israel, said the fact that the Jewish state was created on land where Palestinians were living had always been omitted.

“[As] a Jewish person I was fed a huge amount of lies about Israel my entire life,”

More than 700,000 Palestinians were driven out of their homes or fled fighting in the 1948 war that led to Israel’s creation. Today, those families and their descendants make up around 5.6 million refugees.

Rogen is correct, as kids, we are fed a diet of propaganda about Israel, it's formation, and how it has survived since 1948.

I used to be very bigoted and racist towards Palestinians...but then I grew up and realized I was full of shit.

I don't believe Israel should continue occupying Gaza, Golan, and the West Bank. I also believe all those settlements should either be torn down or given to the Palestinians.

Israel cannot survive if it continues to occupy millions of people.

There are one or two hardened haters of the tribe here- but I've never seen a thread to that effect. Maybe I've just been lucky enough to miss them.

Yeah...ever since around 2003/4, my mind changed completely on Israel. Part of it had to do with growing up and getting Arab and Palestinian friends, but it also had to do with that tribalist mentality, and the unending search for justifications of oppression today. I just got sick and tired of having to find an obscure incident or person to make it OK to hate on Palestinians. Most of the Palestinians were born in the occupied territories, so the only life they've ever known is one of oppression and occupation. When I came to that realization, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I also know that Israel itself is very divided on the occupation, but just like here, religious fundamentalists have illegitimate control of the government and use fear to keep their voters in line.
