47% of Americans think Trump will refuse to concede if he loses election

Trump thinks in binary.

Either you are the winner or you are the loser.

It's winner take all.

Nothing in between.

Big problem: That's not the way our government was designed.

Trump is a test of the Constitution. So far, Trump is winning.

That means the Constitution is losing.

He has zero respect for our conventions, institutions and process.

I really have no doubt at all. If he loses, he won't leave. He'll create a crisis. And we see from this thread how the cult will react - they'll back him up.

I believe Trump will stoop to no lows in order to avoid prison.

I believe he would rather overdose on whatever drugs he's on than ever face a single day of accountability for his actions

The problem is that because he's not an honest person, what he does is put the onus on you to determine when/if he's being truthful in any given moment.

It is literally what fascists did in Europe in the 1930's...and how did that work out for everyone?

Oh right, you probably don't believe the Holocaust happened either because you don't believe in institutional racism.

Right, he is not honest so we don't need to worry about your claim that he is going to cancel the election or his "we'll see" comment.

I guess we'll see, won't we? He's already floated delaying it, he's already floated rejecting the results, so...why would he even let it happen if there was a chance he could lose and end up in prison?

Maybe we'll all get lucky and he'll have another series of strokes and fucking die on the toilet, mid-tweet.

And that trial balloon he floated ended up being a big flop which he quickly dropped.

The election will not be cancelled. Don't be such a drama queen.

Hello Flash,

And that trial balloon he floated ended up being a big flop which he quickly dropped.

The election will not be cancelled.

Face the music time is coming. There will be an election. There will be an outcome. Then we will know.

I'm hoping the left, along with people who are fed up with Trump, will be well motivated to come out and vote against him. He's already got his base fired up. They were fired up in 2016. He has lost some of them, and he has not expanded the following.

The 'wait and see' people who sat out the 2016 election have seen what they they waited for. And now I believe they have been waiting for a chance to vote against Trump. And they are fine with Biden. Biden will be just fine because he is not Trump.

The hatred, the lying, the cheating, the dirty tricks, the name-calling, the attention hogging, collusion with Russia, the subservience to Putin and Kim, Ukraine, the racism, the mean and nasty, the vindictiveness, all the convicts surrounding him, the stupid world embarrassing remarks, the showboating, the profiteering from his DC hotel, the reneging about releasing his taxes, not protecting troops, the near constant controversies, the tweeting, pardoning criminals, failure to bring coal jobs, golfing when he said he wouldn't, and on and on and on.

People have had enough. They want him gone.

I am hoping the election will be Biden in a landslide not close enough to legally challenge. Clean and simple. Trump can whine and fuss all he wants, if he's not out by inauguration day we will very gladly throw him out. (If he hasn't already fled the country by then.)

I don't think it will be a landslide (for either side). Biden is not Trump, but I don't think there is a lot of enthusiasm for his candidacy. Like 2016, both presidential candidates have negative approval ratings (only Harris does not).

The biggest group is the people who strongly disapprove of Trump.

Right, he is not honest so we don't need to worry about your claim that he is going to cancel the election or his "we'll see" comment.

So...don't you think it's dangerous for a POTUS to not be honest? And wouldn't the fact that he's dangerous mean that he's a threat to our elections?

Yesterday, he literally went on TV and urged his supporters to commit felony voter fraud.

How are we to know when Trump is being truthful or not?

And that trial balloon he floated ended up being a big flop which he quickly dropped.

Did he? Are you sure about that? I mean, really, really sure? Because that would rely on you trusting him. Which you've already said you can't.

The election will not be cancelled.

We'll see, won't we? A lot can happen between now and November 3rd. Like a pandemic raging out of control.

I remember Guiliani extending his term as mayor unilaterally after 9/11.

Isn't Rudy Colludy one of Trump's top men?

A larger percentage thought Obama was qualified to be President based solely on skin color. They were wrong, too.

That was my point. Since we don't believe much of what Trump said why would we believe he would cancel an election? It is not something he threatened to do and a president has no power to cancel an election. Anything he has tried to do without constitutional power has been blocked by the courts (although some of it was simply poor paperwork from the administration).

I don't think he had the power to add the $400 to unemployment benefits through an executive order.

He also had no power to extort Ukraine, but he did that.

Like what? He didn't have the constitutional power to raid the Pentagon budget to fund his dumb wall, but he did that.

Problem is that Trump does things, and then we are forced to react because he doesn't abide by the institutional norms because he has people like you protecting him.

Trump held up money to Ukraine which he had no authority to do--yet he did.

Only temporarily. OMB said it was illegal to withhold the money. Canceling an election is a much bigger deal. Plus, elections are conducted by the states which the president has no authority to control. He even conceded he had no power to open up state economies which he originally claimed he had power to do.

Lucky the president has no power to cancel an election.

Well, he didn't have the power to extort Ukraine either, but he did.

He didn't have the power to re-allocate Defense funds for his stupid wall, but he did.

Your naivety is the belief that our democratic institutions aren't vulnerable. But clearly they are.

He no longer even mentions a delay.

The fact that he mentioned it in the first place should be your first clue of what his intent is.

You shouldn't worry about it either unless you trust Trump.

The problem is, we don't know when he's being truthful and when he's not.

And you let him get away with it by naively believing our democratic institutions will protect us from him.

They haven't so far.
