Watching the Debate

Hello jacksonsprat22,

Trump would never agree to that.

If he did it would be the shortest debate in history.

Then what?

It just turns into a Biden interview?

Fine.

The idea of a mike cutoff is being floated elsewhere. The alternative is no debate at all. If the rules aren't changed, I won't be watching the next one.

That simple step—turning the mic on and off according to who is supposed to be speaking—would allow the next debates to go on with a modicum of decorum. We might actually be able to hear what the candidates are saying. The split screen could still allow the candidates to laugh, smirk, shake their heads in outrage, or whatever. But at least we would be able to hear what the candidates had to say, a modest improvement over the most awful presidential debate ever.

Aussies watched the debate, too.

And the Brits. :)

The BBC link is a good long and detailed article. Two paragraphs that caught my eye are:
"Wallace had given both candidates a chance to cut against their own bases, which can at times be a wise political strategy. Instead, they both dodged and danced."

"Moderating this prestigious primetime event may have been the worst job in America on Tuesday night."

Which is why watching the Republicans fuck this up and watch the Democrats win the WH, Senate and House disturbs me. Biden's anti-gun plans are on his website.

Unlike you, I'm not a lying piece of shit who worships lying piece of shit drug addicts. I'd rather see Pence as President than a Democrat but the Republicans have destroyed their own party. Like tonight's debate, the Democrats are winning by default, not because they are good for the nation.

if you acknowledge Biden's anti-gun plans are on his website why do you deny he has anti-gun plans?......

Right because Trump can’t follow the rules he agreed to.

Agreed. Trump fans loved it, but it appears most people were annoyed by Trump's behavior. There's a difference between being Bullish and being a Bully. IMO, analysis will show Trump lost points last night and Biden didn't move the needle at all.

If the next debate doesn't have an automatic mic cutoff switch, I'll be watching something else that night. Watching two septuagenarians, especially Trump, act like juvenile punks for 90 minutes is a waste of time.

if you acknowledge Biden's anti-gun plans are on his website why do you deny he has anti-gun plans?......

Another lie from you. Please remember that along with other times when I've pointed out your lies and you ask for evidence of your lies.

Agreed that's the trend. It wasn't until this year that any Democrats dared to voice the word "confiscation" in public. In 2016 Hillary danced with the idea of an "Australian-style" form of gun control which, of course, is mandatory buyback AKA confiscation. It's an obvious progression of the current Democratic agenda; to force Americans into giving up their right of self-defense.
Tell me none of the statements below contain spin AKA lying by omission.

Ready, set, go!

Joe Biden has taken on the National Rifle Association (NRA) on the national stage and won – twice.
----
As a result of this effort, the Obama-Biden Administration took more than two dozen actions, including narrowing the so-called “gun show loophole,”
-----------
As president, Biden will:

Ban the manufacture and sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Federal law prevents hunters from hunting migratory game birds with more than three shells in their shotgun. That means our federal law does more to protect ducks than children. It’s wrong. Joe Biden will enact legislation to once again ban assault weapons. This time, the bans will be designed based on lessons learned from the 1994 bans. For example, the ban on assault weapons will be designed to prevent manufacturers from circumventing the law by making minor changes that don’t limit the weapon’s lethality. While working to pass this legislation, Biden will also use his executive authority to ban the importation of assault weapons.
Regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act. Currently, the National Firearms Act requires individuals possessing machine-guns, silencers, and short-barreled rifles to undergo a background check and register those weapons with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Due to these requirements, such weapons are rarely used in crimes. As president, Biden will pursue legislation to regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act.
Buy back the assault weapons and high-capacity magazines already in our communities. Biden will also institute a program to buy back weapons of war currently on our streets. This will give individuals who now possess assault weapons or high-capacity magazines two options: sell the weapons to the government, or register them under the National Firearms Act.
Many Republicans and Democrats are like me except they don't spend hours every day posting to a political forum. They have better things to do. :D

Do you believe LV426, Bourbon and Jackson are "average Democrats"? Or do you think they are a subgroup of people who are truly upset and highly biased toward a political cause? If the former, I disagree. If the latter, then they are simply the flipside of the RWNJs.

Look at Trump's rallies; even when 20,000 showed up, it was out of tens of millions in the surrounding area. Most people weren't that fired up about him. Texas has 29M citizens. 20,000 people is 0.07%

Trump's Tulsa rally cost $2.2M and drew people from Texas and Arkansas. Capacity was 19,000 but only 6200 showed up. What does this tell you? It tells me Republicans and Trump supporters aren't as wacky as the RWNJs on this forum nor are they as extreme as you've been led to believe.

At the moment, I think most Independents will vote Biden even with about 6% of us voting Third party. So why would so many vote for Trump even though he's probably nuts and drug addict? Because it's still about which party will control the US government. What each party is offering offends about half of Americans. Compromise would be good, but that's not going to happen. The Democrats won't lose the house and they might even gain the Senate.

It disturbs me, and I'm sure millions of other Americans, to realize that the Democrats will dominate both the Executive and Legislative branches next year. We already know their agenda; it's on Biden's website - More spending, more taxation, more banning. That's not the American I would prefer.

Dementia Joe appeared weak and feckless, unprepared and unable to deal with a strong leader like President Trump.

His usual 10AM nap this morning won't be pleasant as he dreams of the thrashing he received last night.

He is weak and unable to deal with the big bad boys of this world.

I regretfully agree he is talking to much. Shouldn't be talking over Biden constantly. Not a great look. All he had to do was let Sleepy Joe stumble.

Trump reminded me of that drunk sitting at the end of the Bar, running his big hateful mouth for attention, insulting everyone, cracking sick jokes, trying to act like a tough guy, challenging everyone, stirring up fights, while people just keep backing further and farther away- until they can't take it anymore and leave.

You cannot take Donald Trump anywhere he don't embarrass everyone around him, because he is a total asshole and horribly miserable hateful person unfit to be around others.

To be honest I thought both of them were awful and the debate was totally useless. All we got was the same partisan BS from Biden and the same blustering that Trump is noted for. Neither gave me any reason to vote for them. Wasted 1.5 hours.
