Agreed. Biden's best bet is to agree to any moderation changes such as an automatic mic cutoff switch. Trump would balk at such a change, blame Biden, the Democrats and anyone else, then refuse to show up. Seeing Biden talk to an empty chair like Clint Eastwood did with Obama would be good optics for Biden.

If Trump refused to agree there would be no point in pretending it is a debate.

Options would be outright cancellation (probable) or simply a one on one interview with Biden and the moderator.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Biden's comment was understandable even though it wasn't commendable.

The next debate is the VP debate on October 7th. I have no doubt both candidates will act like adults. OTOH, the next Presidential debate is on October 15th will be a repeat of last night unless changes are made to format and control. I'd love to hear the discussion going on today with Steve Scully and C-SPAN.

The moderator: The vice-presidential debate will be moderated by Susan Page, USA Today’s Washington bureau chief.

Second Presidential Debate
Location: Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami. This debate was originally scheduled to take place at the University of Michigan, which said it wouldn’t host the debate because of concerns over the pandemic.

How to watch: The Times will stream the event and provide live analysis. The debate will also be carried on the news networks.

The moderator: Steve Scully, who is the political editor at C-SPAN, will moderate a town-hall-style event with undecided voters from South Florida. Mr. Scully will have an additional minute per question to prompt further discussion.

Agreed on the bolded. I'm not sure anyone can prep Trump since he seems to do whatever whimsy floats through his brain-housing group.

Agreed his rants were full of conspiracy theories and, no doubt, Miller is happy to feed Trump's interests in those theories, but the fault is Trump's. No one else's since Trump cans anyone who disagrees with him and keeps anyone who agrees with him.

New debate rule:

If you interrupt the other speaker during the time you agreed not to interrupt, your mic is turned off for two minutes. The other speaker is allowed to begin over and have two complete minutes of uninterrupted time. The next time you do it, it goes up to three minutes, etc.
