I agree, but one aspect I think needs further scrutiny.......

While trump relentlessly attacked the media & they him/reporting on him he received, from the jump tons of free press & attention, he was controlling the daily news cycle & has pretty much since.......

Is that just his skill or has he had help in all that??

While fox has always been his slavish & submissive protector CNN has given him non-stop coverage ever since, 24/7/365.......

Kinda odd that the same guy that built him on the apprentice(prob only reason he isn't in prison now) is the same dude running trump news 24/7/365 on CNN???

in regards to Bush -and the rest, and now Trump as well it's obvious we are crippled by our debt. China actually has a surplus and was able to stimulate the economy during the COVID recession without effecting their economy by the spending

only thing is to play some geopolitics, and peel India away from China's dominate economy.

And da Russians....STOP THE DAMN SANCTIONS..and allow them back into the G8 and western banking (markets)

India has not joined the belt & road & struggles to keep China @ bay...........

They would seem like a natural fit........

There are problems going forward w/ Russia but if things continue to build w/ China, those may not continue to be a large hurdle..

I have no doubts Putin knows China is going to come calling shortly after Taiwan........

I don’t understand why everyone is getting their panties in a wad. Did any thinking person expect any different from Trump?

Trump rose to political power as a demagogue and has governed his first term as one. He did in this debate exactly what one should expect of a demagogue and exhibited one of the essential qualities of a demagogue. He shut down reasoned debate and he did so successfully. Neither Chris Wallace or Joe Biden were prepared to do the obvious. Deal with a demagogue.

So because Trump successfully shut down the debate he achieved his strategic goal and clearly won. Distasteful as that is and it was. Trump was clearly the winner. I know my liberal friends and Trump opponents won’t like hearing that but facts are facts.

So what is Biden to do to combat a demagogue who is in office?

First he has to realize that as the challenger the election is not really about him. It’s really an up or down vote on the party in power. So he needs to focus less on what he would do as President and focus more on what the Trump and his Republican administration didn’t do and where it failed.

Second he cannot consider not debating Trump. Because that’s what a demagogue wants. It feeds into the narrative that powerful interest, the swamp, the career politicians, the government bureaucracy, the deep state, are all out to silence him.

Third he has to have a strategy to deal with a demagogue. When attempting to debate a demagogue you need to take them serious, you cannot let him get under your skin, you have to take the serious, you cannot be rude, insult or belittle them.

If a demagogue keeps interrupting you, let them. Listen politely and seriously and don’t interrupt them. Even if he wants to talk the entire 90 minutes let him. Give a demagogue enough rope and they hang themselves.

When he does have the chance to speak answer the moderators question shortly and concisely then look at the camera and speak to his audience. Tell them where Trump has not done what he promised or where he had failed. He should also point out that Trump doesn’t understand how to do the job and/or isn’t even interested in the job or has been overwhelmed or incompetent at doing the job. Remember the election and therefore the debate isn’t about Biden and his party. It is about Trump and his party. So don’t talk about your plans Joe. Talk about Trump not having a plan or failing to plan.

Biden needs to look straight into the camera when he does this and speak directly to the American people. Did you notice Biden was most effective last night when he did that?

If Trump interrupts him let him. Just keep your mouth shut and let Trump talk till he shuts up. Remember it’s not how long you have to talk. It’s what you do say that matters.

If Trump wants to grandstand let him. The people will see it for the circus act it is. Instead be polite and look serious and cut out that condescending smile and let Trump empty his air bag.

So if Trump doesn’t want to play by the rules then fine. Don’t play into the demagogues game. Don’t play by the demagogues rule by not feeding into the demagogues narrative. Be calm, be polite, be professional, be respectful, be composed, be serious, talk to your audience but be prepared to break the rules too by directly questioning the demagogues narrative and manufactured crisis.

So if Biden wants to win the next debate he would do well to keep these points in mind. After all a demagogues worst enemy is themselves.

Agreed. Unfortunately it's not just the LW extremists have have a problem with allowing the States to choose. Several RWers on this forum applauded Trump sending Federal troops to Oregon. They also applauded Trump's comments about sending in the United States Army.

If that was Trump's strategic goal, then he's as delusional as many think him to be. All he "won" was the applause of his base but Republicans and Independents alike disliked his actions resulting in a Biden edge.

No disagreement about defending Federal property. However, when Trump acts like that cocksucking murderer Putin and sends Federal troops to round up citizens off the streets, that's supporting Federal authority over State authority.

One day a Russian Patriot will stand up and put a bullet in the back of Putin's head. I know it won't be you.
