Electoral College Watch Thread

Hello Dutch Uncle,

That's the funny part; the Democratic Party has moved so far left that 70% of Americans are not Democrats. The best compromise they could offer was a septuagenarian who is virtually guaranteed to serve only a single term.

Obviously the Republicans aren't any better which explains why this election, like 2016, is coming down to the wire.

If there are so many people who disagree with either party, where is that viable third party?

If you want any power you have to pick a party. Non major party votes are nothing more than feeble momentary statements, quickly forgotten.

That was a promise to the rich donor class so unless you are one of them I wouldn't be too concerned about not believing. But I have a feeling that Biden and the Dems will keep that promise.

Obama said he'd close GITMO. Reality set in and he didn't.

Jorgenson once again proved America has no taste for Libertarian ideas.

Barely registered as having gotten any votes at all.

For the same reason both the Sunnis and Shi'as kill Westerners in the ME. If the West left, they'd go back to killing themselves as they've been doing for 1400 years.

The Democrats and the Republicans both understand a third party would be in neither of their best interests so they do their best to keep any such threats at bay.

....and could cost either Trump or Biden the election. BWAAA-HA-HA-HA-HAAA! <insert evil grin here>

I hate GITMO, but you’re right, reality means it has to exist. I wish humans were better, but we aren’t.

Agreed. If more people understood this point, maybe we'd be better able to create effective solutions to our mutual problems.

At the moment, it seems all we are doing as a nation is butting heads.

It is looking ever more in the bag for Biden.

PBS Newshour tonight pointed out that most of the remaining ballots to be counted in Nevada are primarily in Las Vegas - a heavily Democratic county.

They hope to have results by the end of the day tomorrow.

A win in Nevada is all that stands between Biden and 270 EC votes.

There may also be a last minute surprise in GA.

The remaining ballots to be counted there are in a strong Democratic district surrounding Atlanta.

Could this be the year that GA goes blue?

He tried. The house has the power of the purse and it was in Reds hands. They refused to fund closing it. They refused to fund moving the prisoners to US prisons. The president, other than Trump, is not a king.

There is a story about the electoral college. Colorado voted to end it in their state, go popular vote. They are, I think, the 19th state to do it. When they hit 270, it's supposed to end.

Translation: Obama either lied or didn't know how Congress worked.

Which was it? Was Obama lying when he made that promise or just ignorant? ;)

Trump is not King. He's just a fucking moron who thinks he's king.

Ummmm.....how do you figure? Doesn't it require a Constitutional Amendment?

Where is a there a successful Libertarian country anywhere in the world and whatever happened to Liberland?

Define "Libertarian" country. Do you mean where the Federal government is small and restricted to national security and foreign treaties while each state has autonomy to handle their own affairs under the umbrella of a national Constitution?
IIRC, that's exactly the way it was until Lincoln, the first Republican President, invaded the Southern states. ;)

Remains to be seen. It should be a lesson to intelligent people that the country is both divided and dissatisfied with the direction of the nation.

I am amused that in two adjacent posts I have Cinnabar telling me the "corporate Dems will do nothing," and in yours you note what you see is a large shift to the left.

Two different pictures of the Democratic Party.

And that has been the case for a long time. Republicans are more unified in their simplistic (and imo naive) message, and Democrats are all over the place with a myriad of tenuously congealed disparate groups.

Republicans now stand for Trump, greed, power, wealth, and Democrats pretty much everything else. Compassion, diversity, responsibility, the General Welfare.

Neither party is really that crazy about their leaders. Many Republicans don't really like Trump but they vote for him anyway. And the same with Democrats and Biden.

Regardless of the perceptions, results count: 70% of Americans don't feel represented by Democrats and, therefore, aren't Democrats. Same goes for the Republicans.

What does that tell you that the two major parties of the United States each only contain about 30% of American voters?

Obviously 70% of Americans disagree with your perceptions since, if you were correct, 70% of Americans would be Democrats. ;)

I am fine with people disagreeing with my views. That is what America is all about. The thing that really speaks is the hatred. That lets me know that people who oppose my views are not thinking clearly, and are driven by emotions instead of logic.

In the past I have proudly displayed bumper stickers showing my support for popular figures. I won't do that anymore. I now consider that too dangerous. There is just too much hatred out there now.
