Putin has done very well.

He's prevented an Izraeli/US war with Iran by halting the destruction of the Syrian state.
He's prevented the subversion of Ukraine by NATO by way of the re-annexation of Crimea by peaceful, popular referendum. The subversion risked nuclear conflict.
He's maintained the world military equilibrium by matching NATO aggression with Russian fire-power.
He's convinced many countries that defense is better than aggression and provided them with the world's leading missile defenses.
He's maintained peaceful relations with the US by way of mutual scientific engagement with space programs.

Why would any weirdo want him to suffer from disease ?

and backing the separatists

The airliner incident happened because of Russian separatists, not the Russian government. That would be like blaming the Irish government for the actions of the IRA.

As far as Crimea goes, what exactly can be done when a foreign nation invades part of another nation where the locals support the foreign government more than the local government? Crimea is heavily ethnic Russian, so it's not surprising that this happened. It doesn't make it right, but it's a lot like what happened in Kosovo. Enough Albanians moved to that part of Serbia that they successfully separated from Serbia.

If anything, both Crimea and Kosovo are a lesson that immigration can dramatically change the loyalties of an area.

Sure, but I doubt they wanted the missiles to be used on a commercial airliner.

To put things in perspective, we supplied arms to the rebels in Syria. Does that make us responsible for the rise of ISIS there? You could make that argument, if we make this argument against Russia regarding the airliner, but I think there are degrees of culpability.

Were the Russians reckless in how they helped the rebels in Ukraine? sure. Were we reckless in our support of the rebels in Syria? I would say so.

There was a bit more than that, the missiles were operated by a Russian brigade.

In September 2016, an international team of criminal investigators said evidence showed the Buk missile had been brought in from Russian territory and was fired from a field controlled by Russian-backed separatists.

The Dutch-led joint investigation team (JIT) concluded in May 2018 that the missile system belonged to a Russian brigade, and Australia and the Netherlands announced both were holding Russia responsible for downing the aircraft.

Then, in June 2019, the JIT named four men it alleged were involved in bringing the missile into the area in eastern Ukraine, and charged them with the murders of 298 passengers and crew. It announced that international arrest warrants had been issued.

The suspects, who prosecutors plan to try under Dutch law at a court hearing beginning on 9 March 2020, are:

Igor Girkin (also known as Strelkov), a former colonel in Russia's FSB intelligence service, according to prosecutors. He was given the minister of defence title in the rebel-held eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk

Sergei Dubinsky (known as Khmury), who was employed by Russia's GRU military intelligence agency, was a deputy of Mr Girkin and was in regular contact with Russia, investigators said

Oleg Pulatov, known as Giurza, a former soldier of GRU special forces and deputy head of the intelligence service in Donetsk, according to the JIT

Leonid Kharchenko, a Ukrainian national who has no military background but led a combat unit as a commander in Eastern Ukraine, prosecutors said.

Details of the charges against these men, who prosecutors said were "innocent until the contrary is proven in court", will be outlined during the proceedings.

The case will be tried in absentia as none of the suspects will appear at the Dutch court. Russia does not extradite its own citizens.

The JIT, whose investigation continues, has previously said it has a "long list" of persons of interest and has repeatedly appealed for witnesses.

Russia has denied any role.
