If you have a passport and have seen the quality of life in more modern nations, it would be hard not to notice that the US, even more so in red states, is socially regressive.
Otherwise, you might not have any way of knowing.

This is itself a religious argument. Paradox.
'Reality' is not capitalized (unless it's the first word in a sentence). It is not a proper noun. 'Reality' is not defined by religion. It is defined by a branch of philosophy known as phenomenology.
This was a time when religion was little practiced. Islam (a religion) saw advances in science and mathematics, while nonreligious barbarians didn't. Monasteries were built like fortresses, to keep the rabble OUT. They were in darkness as well, turning to their own monotonous and meaningless chants.
This was largely religiously based. They even went so far as to to try calculate the day, hour, and minute of the moment of Creation. Galileo was a devout Christian, despite what the Catholic church did to him. So was Kepler. So was Leonardo de Vinci. So was Rene Descartes.
You can deny history all you want. You prefer illiteracy.

I am not bashing Christians. It is my observation that some non Christian follow the teachings of Jesus, do no harm, love your enemies, feed the poor, etc. better than some Christians I have observed on this forum.
All the great artists and intellectuals of the Renaissance were practicing Christians.
The tradition in western civilization of skeptical inquiry, scholarly research, resurrection of Greek logic and reason, the pursuit of natural philosophy (aka, science), and the establishment of universities are all directly attributable to Christianity. We are all products of a western Judeo-Christian tradition, whether or not we subscribe to Christian theology.
I do not have a dog in the fight. I have been on this forum since 2006 and have more posts here bashing bible thumpers than I do defending Christianity. I just do not see the point denying historical facts. History is not black and white -- Christians are the bad guys and aetheists are the good guys.
