In a fast-moving vote, GOP Senators Murkowski, Romney, Collins, Sasse and Graham voted with a bloc of Democratic Party senators to enable House Impeachment Managers to call witnesses at the second Senate Impeachment trial of former President Donald John Trump

On Saturday, House impeachment manager Jamie Raskin announced on the Senate floor that he will move to subpoena Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA) as a witness in the trial of former President Donald Trump.

Raskin said that he specifically wants notes from Herrera Beutler regarding her conversations with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Trump's resistance to calling the national guard to put down the Capitol insurrection, a set of facts which goes to the president's disinterest in stopping the riot from taking place.

Oh yeah.

Let the ship hit the fan.

It still won't result in a guilty verdict, but if Republicans are gonna show total subservience to Trump, let them wear that shame.

You can't jump in a swamp and come out smelling like a rose.

Double edge sword, going to delay Biden’s agenda, and for what, if God himself came down from heaven and said Trump was guilty the same forty whatever Republicans would still vote not guilty

Although it could be interesting, they could even subpoena Trump, he isn’t under Billy Barr’s imperial Presidency protection any longer
 
They think calling Pelosi is a good idea for the defense :laugh: what would she have to offer. She would make the defense look foolish. The same for the Mayor of DC. The FBI would be a mistake as well because they would show the planning of the riot was based on Trump’s wishes as several of those arrested have confirmed.

The Senate remains in a quorum call as leaders speak to the clerks at the dais.

It’s important to note that Lindsey Graham’s change in vote in the motion to call witnesses does not imply that he’s changed his mind regarding the verdict.

The South Carolina senator, who has met with Trump’s defense team to discuss strategy and plan out the closing argument, has appeared on Fox News in recent days threatening to call the likes of Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris and Muriel Bowser in retaliation.

Its the Democrats who are calling witnesses, not the republicans.

I agree, but I’m all for getting everything on the record. It can be used in campaignadds against them in 2022.

Cruz and Graham, who really are calling the shots on the defense, will want everybody and anybody called as witnesses, but it is a bluff for Fox coverage, witnesses have to be voted on, so as soon as Nancy Pelosi’s name comes up it will voted down

Bigger question, what happens if the Democrats call Trump, doubtful, but he doesn’t have the imperial Presidency defense any longer

The final vote tally on calling witnesses was 55 in favor and 45 opposed. Five Republicans joined Democrats in voting in favor: Sens. Mitt Romney (Utah), Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Ben Sasse (Neb.) and Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.), who initially voted “no” but later switched to “yes.”

Even if they don't get a conviction this is very important for the USA to hear this testimony. Even if people don't pay attention as it happens today, it gets in the news. It goes on record. It can be brought back up in any argument or discussion going forward. This is going to act to kill support for Trump. History is being made today. It can't be taken back.

When the Joe McCarthy era ended, those who stuck with him to the end all lost power right along with him.

This extension of this trial draws the moment closer when all Republicans need to be very careful about whether they stand with Trump or against him. At some point it will be very bad for people who stand with Trump. That day is drawing ever closer.
