There was a multi year upgrade to the Suez Jack. Wider, deeper, upgraded systems etc, etc. Big job.
They are using Tugs and excavators. They will get her free.

Sounds like it. I remember waiting in Suez a few days to convoy north. Some Taxi Driver asked us if we wanted to go ride Camels, visit the Pyramids, go see the Belly Dancers in Cairo.
Well now an expert turning out to be wrong certainly would not be abnormal!
There is going to come a point when even those with their hands out realize someone is going to have to pay for all this. And it will not be because they have a revelation. Our government is going to go after them also to pay.
Will you please move already!!!???
Nice to see you too APL!
According to the canal passage contract the ship owner is legally responsible for everything if a ship malfunction causes blockage, but then again a lot of ships are owned by entities that dont have much blood to bleed. I dont know about this one. Another thing, dont they use pilots on the Suez? If so that would indicate to me that ship owner is not liable
Did you move your big ass of a ship yet?
All the time. Not currently in the Suez right now though....smartass!
They use Pilots in the Suez. No ship has a choice on that. A Pilot will not be held responsible for any damages if he/she screw up. That is the Captains responsibility. What you are referring to is the companies insurance should any claims be made.
You understand that makes no sense? The canal operator is responsible for who is allowed to pilot...which is the act of driving the ship through the canal, if they are incompetent the liability should not be to the ship owner.
The captain is responsible even though they have no control?
That violates reason and fair play.
Are you sure about this?
Completely sure Hawkeye. Those are the rules with every pilot everywhere in the world. A Master of a vessel has the sole responsibility of that vessel. A Pilot is brought aboard as a request (even if mandated). A Master can at anytime over rule the Pilot.

If the captain refuses pilot instructions will he ever be allowed back into the canal?
Yes. No problem at all. If they are right in their judgement. Masters and Pilots get along quite well.
The entire fucking point of having pilots is to get someone aboard who has more expertise than the captain.
If you are correct the operation of the canal is fucked in the head.
