Why all the lies about Georgia's new voting law?

To hear Democrats and the media tell it, Georgia has just undone the civil rights era. The state’s new election reform law, signed by Gov. Brian Kemp, they say, is an attempt to disenfranchise millions and return to the Jim Crow era.

This narrative is both false and ridiculous.

The story, in brief, is this: Democrats find it politically advantageous to cry that minority voters are being disenfranchised, and so they are doing so once again. And once again, the largest media outlets are going along with the cynical ploy.

Georgia’s new voting reform law contains simple, commonsense measures, most of which — and this will shock you if your understanding of the law comes from CNN or President Joe Biden — will make it easier for people to vote. Some of its provisions rightly protect the voting process from the (very real) risk of fraud, a risk that grows as more votes are cast by mail.

But for the Left, Georgia has long been a truth-free zone, and Democrats have found this arrangement agreeable.

In 2018, Democrats made and the media parroted multiple false and dishonest claims about disenfranchisement in the 2018 Georgia governor’s race. The media indulged the ludicrous fantasy, every bit as ludicrous as the fantasies that precipitated the Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol this year, that Stacey Abrams had that race stolen from her. It worked.

There are no incentives now to tell the truth. This is all part of a political scheme.

Biden himself misled about the Georgia voting law during his first press conference, claiming that it forced polling places to close at 5 p.m., “so working people can’t cast their vote after their shift is over.” In fact, the law merely requires polling places during early voting to stay open until at least 5 p.m., giving them discretion to stay open until 7 p.m. This is an expansion of voting hours, not a contraction of them.

Another provision that has somehow aroused all sorts of anger in the media is the one barring political campaigners from bribing voters with money, food, water, etc. within 150 feet of a polling place. This provision is already the law in many states, including New York. Liberals are not suddenly outraged by it. The outrage is entirely manufactured and disingenuous. Election workers and community volunteers will still be permitted to distribute food and water to voters in line.

Finally, the law contains perfectly commonsense requirements that absentee voters provide appropriate proof of identity when requesting their ballots and request their ballot within a perfectly reasonable nine-week window — not the six-month period that was permitted in the 2020 election.

Democrats only just Wednesday backed down from attempting to overthrow the election result in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District after a poll made it clear how unpopular that would be. They still won’t acknowledge the result of the 2018 Georgia governor’s race, and indeed they still do not accept the 2016 presidential election result. This is all evidence that they only respect voters’ rights when the voters vote for Democrats.

Joe Biden repeatedly tells same lie about new election laws

US President Joe Biden has been slammed for telling the same fib about new election laws multiple times, even after his claims were debunked.

" This is Jim Crow on steroids, what they’re doing in Georgia. What is it all about? Imagine passing a law saying you can’t provide water or food for someone standing in line to vote.

“Come on. Or you’re going to close the polling place at five o’clock, when working people just get off? This is all about keeping working folks and ordinary folks that I grew up with from being able to vote.”

It is the most pernicious thing. This makes Jim Crow look like Jim Eagle,” he said during his first presidential press conference last week.

(I confess, I don’t really understand the point he was trying to make here. Are eagles good and crows bad? I’m not much of an ornithologist.)

“It’s an atrocity,” he said last Friday.

“This is nothing but punitive, and designed to keep people from voting.”

Hyperbolic rhetoric aside, what we’re really talking about here is Mr Biden’s claim that polling places will have to close at 5pm, the implication being that it’s an attempt to stop working class Americans from voting.

“It’s sick. It’s sick. Deciding in some states that you cannot bring water to people standing in line waiting to vote, deciding that you’re going to end voting at five o’clock when working people are just getting off work,” he said during last week’s media conference.

“Among the outrageous parts of this new state law, it ends voting hours early so working people can’t cast their vote after their shift is over,” the White House added in a statement.

This is incorrect.

The relevant provision in the law relates to early voting, ahead of election day, and a requirement that voting sites open “beginning at 9am and ending at 5pm”.

As things stood, election officials in rural counties often worked part time, meaning they would be open for fewer than eight hours. In other words, less than a full working day.

The law requires them to be open for at least eight hours on weekdays.

On election day itself, voting sites still have discretion to stay open until 7pm.

The Washington Post’s fact checker, Glenn Kessler, gave Mr Biden’s claim “four Pinocchios”, which is the worst rating on his scale and is reserved for “whoppers”.

“One could understand a flub in a news conference. But then this same claim popped up in an official presidential statement,” Kessler noted.

“Not a single expert we consulted who has studied the law understood why Biden made this claim, as this was the section of law that expanded early voting for many people. Somehow Biden managed to turn that expansion into a restriction aimed at working people, calling it ‘among the outrageous parts’ of the law.

“There is no evidence that is the case.”

The President’s claims have also sparked pushback from state officials.

“Democrats and national media outlets asserting that Georgia’s election reform will ‘restrict access’ to voting are just partisan talking points, not facts,” said Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, who rose to national fame after last year’s election for repeatedly contradicting Mr Trump’s false fraud claims.

“The claim of voter suppression has the same level of truth as the claims of voter fraud in the last election,” said Gabriel Sterling, another Republican election official who made a point of debunking Mr Trump’s allegations.

Mr Biden has continued to repeat the claim in public, even after it has been debunked.

They have to lie to maintain the narrative. They know that most of the dumbocrats are too stupid or lazy to look up the law themselves to find out what's in it and will rely on crackhead news network to tell them what to think.

AND THEY'RE CORRECT.....

None of this will matter when the DEMOCRATS pass H.R. 1 and bungling Biden signs election fraud into federal law.

All the fake news about "voter suppression" is propaganda to make idiots think they were forced to eliminate all election safeguards.
