Never suggested I did. Although there is nothing about socialism that is inherently authoritarian. Socialism is an economic system and can be combined with a democratic political system. None exist although some try to classify some European nations as "democratic socialist."

They are not socialist and keep telling Bernie Sanders they are not, but we have distorted the meaning of the term to confuse it with social welfare programs. Scandinavian nations have an extensive social welfare system but the means of production is still privately owned. Socialist nations like China, Cuba, and North Korea are largely state owned industries but do not have extensive social welfare systems.

There is no socialist-communist nation that is authoritarian-totalitarian that was not that way before it became socialist. It is characteristic of the political culture of most nations and not the specific political system.

Today liberals and conservatives often refer to government programs as socialist. But nothing Joe Biden or Kamala Harris propose that is socialist--they are liberal.

What countries have been Democratic Socialist? China is not democratic but it has the world's fastest growing economy (after it adopted some market principles and allowed more private ownership of some of its state enterprises.)

What makes you think I was suggesting those nations have more freedom than the U. S.? Don't be so simplistic or think because a person doesn't repeat all your stereotypes they are making conclusions they are not. You create strawmen to argue against.

Republicans label "socialist" or "communist" anything they don't like because it is a negative term an they hope to smear others with lame labels.

Democrats use "socialist" to apply to government social programs they like which has nothing to do with nationalized industries.
