Authoritarian refers to an absence of democracy in the political system.

A socialist nation can be either democratic or authoritarian.
An authoritarian country can be either socialist or capitalist.

Would you rather live in a Socialist country or an Authoritarian country?, then,
really means,
"Between the two,
which is more important to you,
socialism or authoritarianism?"

Trump's America surely bordered on Authoritarianism. Just look at the description:

The enforcement or advocacy of strict obedience to authority at the expense of personal freedom.
Lack of concern for the wishes or opinions of others.

Didn't Trump say that at one of his rallies?

Good. I can shoot too just like millions of other Americans. Even so, violence isn't the answer to our current problems. At least not violence to other Americans. I wouldn't mind the killing some Russians, Chinese, Iranians and other assorted assholes.

The frustration was palpable.
