Biden Administration Advances Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

Department of Transportation, Department of Energy, and General Services Administration Announce New Actions to Accelerate Deployment of Electric Vehicles and Chargers

Today, the White House announced new progress on the Administration’s goal to accelerate and deploy electric vehicles and charging stations, create good-paying, union jobs, and enable a clean transportation future. This includes actions by federal agencies:

The Department of Transportation announced guidance on how grants can be used to deploy charging infrastructure and newly designated alternative fuel corridors;
The Department of Energy announced new funding and partnerships for charger-related research and development; and
The General Services Administration announced progress on the goal to transition the federal fleet to zero-emission vehicles.
In March, the United States passed the milestone of 100,000 public chargers (as recorded by the Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuel Data Center) and these new actions will accelerate deployment to make driving an electric vehicle convenient in every part of the country.

To discuss today’s announcements, National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg visited new, fast-charging facility near Union Station in Washington, DC. The charging stations were installed by an American-based company EVGo and enable EV users to recharge rapidly when away from home.

Most electric vehicle drivers will charge at home and work. One of the perks of driving an electric vehicle is never needing to go to the gas station. But public charging infrastructure will provide a key role for people without off-street parking and for longer trips. A robust, convenient, and affordable network of public chargers will increase confidence for drivers that they will always have a charging option when they need it.

God needs to because joke Biden is an imbecile.

The Federal Government taking an active role in the direction of the country makes common sense.
Nobody had a problem with the Federal Government and the National Interstate System.

reminds me of conservative P.J. O'Rourke's famous quote: "The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it.”

Love that quote. I've never seen the RepubliQan party in such disarray. Even during Watergate.

In a recent report from Bloomberg, White House Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy addressed President Biden’s electric vehicle plan, saying that Biden is “looking to invest more than $170 billion and he’s going to build out the electric charging stations that we need for consumers to buy these vehicles and feel confident that they can get where they want to go and back again.”

The Biden administration has proposed a multitrillion-dollar infrastructure plan that includes EV rebates, as well as 500,000 new electric vehicle charging stations.

While an existing tax credit of $7,500 is currently in place for some electric vehicle buyers, General Motors has already exceeded the 200,000-unit limit required for customers to receive the credit. However, while the existing tax credit is criticized as benefitting primarily wealthy buyers, the new point-of-sale EV rebate is believed to provide greater incentive for low- and middle-income buyers as well.

The Biden administration is framing the new EV rebate and infrastructure investment as necessary components to competing with China.

“The president is concerned that China is far ahead of us in the electric vehicle market,” McCarthy told Bloomberg. “Instead of producing the technologies of the future, we are importing them from somewhere else.”

President Biden previously announced plans to replace the existing federal fleet with new electric vehicles. It is estimated that the federal fleet currently encompasses some 645,000 vehicles, including trucks, SUVs, and cars. Of those 645,000 vehicles, just 3,215 are EVs. Replacing the entire federal fleet is estimated to cost upwards of $20 billion.

I've never seen the RepubliQans in such disarray. Trump has poisoned the party. They act more like FoxNews commentators than real Republicans.

THE FUTURE IS ELECTRIC.

This wouldn't have happened under The Orange Turd.

you dumb ass, if we were to plug in a million or so electric vehicles into the grid to charge overnight, the entire electrical grid would blow up. Additionally most homes do not have sufficient electrical service for a charging station, who is going to pay to upgrade every home in the country?

then there is the battery issue, the materials are mined by child labor in china and africa, the batteries are toxic to the earth, there is no safe disposal method.

electric cars a a joke fantasy.

My best friend has worked at a powerplant for 30 years. I showed him your post.
He laughed and said you were full of shit. I agree with him.
Additionally, most people who buy EVs upgrade their garage outlets to a 220 plug (like I just did).
You really are a fucking moron, deadfish.

In many neighborhoods, particularly older ones, it just might. Neighborhood power grid was not designed to support the massive increase in ampacity necessary to charge an EV in every garage. Homes older than about 1980 won't even have the capacity in their existing service panel to handle that upgrade, any more than they could go to an electric tankless water heater.

Additionally, most people who buy EVs upgrade their garage outlets to a 220 plug (like I just did).

Yep, and I make bank when you want it installed, especially if you have an older house... "You'll need a new service. Your current one-hundred amp one is already maxed out. That'll require permits. Oh, I'll have to trench a new service entry cable. You'll need three-fifty-three MCM SE for that. Yea, the whole thing shouldn't run you more than about three-thousand dollars..."
