I don't think there is any real conflict between our posts. I didn't say public ownership translates to private property rights. My point was that public ownership of industries does not mean the elimination of all property rights, especially personal property. Your comment about the withering away of the state is going beyond the current socialist/communist state to something beyond our discussion.

Socialism would mean the end of free enterprise, the confiscation of all businesses including restaurants, bars, hair salons, rental properties, commercial prperties, farms and ranches, ... and the forcing of all licensed professionals such as doctors and electricians to become employees of the State, ... but they can keep their toothbrushes.

That is a bit of a stretch. Socialism primarily refers to the production and distribution of goods and generally applies to public ownership of major industries. Even communist nations allow private ownership of small businesses. Marxist theory has often proved unsuccessful and in practice we see countries like China allowing more private ownership of a share of the state owned enterprises. With Raul gone even Cuba is opening up to more small business enterprises. China is encouraging doctors to open their own private clinics and hospitals.

I am just attempting an objective description of reality. We both know the state will never wither away and there are many variations among nations calling themselves communist.

And those changes you describe are capitalist, not socialist, so they are not a rebuttal of the definition of socialisms. "Distribution" includes retail outlets. And "public ownership", in reality, means State ownership.

What cannot be arbitrated by debate is wanting different things, 'dog.

When half the people want to live one way and half the people want to live another way,

The choice is to stay together and live with half of the population in a state of perpetual rage,
