Would you rather live in a Socialist country or an Authoritarian country?

I do not do "believing", RB. But if you are asking me if I think people should help themselves...well, YES, I do. But if they do not want to work for (sometimes good) various reasons...I think they should just stay out of the way and allow people who want to work to do what must be done. I also think that allowing those kinds of people to starve or live unsheltered or not have medical care or education is barbaric.

Answered above. I suspect that FORCING people to work is the most damaging thing a society can do to its productivity. I suspect YOU know many people who would substantially improve their company's productivity by just sitting at home doing nothing rather than coming into "work." I suggest we pay those kinds of people to do just that. Not as much as the people working, but enough so they do not starve or freeze to death...so that they have medical care and educational opportunities.

I enjoy the work. It is something to do...occupies my time in an interesting way...and I am good at it.

No...it is not necessary to invite the entire population of the world to your party. If you want to have a party with 3 people, invite three people; if you want 20, invite 20.

Now you are just being silly, apparently because you do not like the idea of everyone not working.

If you want to make it a requirement to dig a hole in your backyard at least 5' deep and 15' in circumference in order to be invited...do that.

OK. Your definition.

I "believe (my definition)" those able to should provide for themselves. We pay taxes to help those who cannot.
Why is it "forcing" people to become part of our country's best interest and economy? Helping themselves is not beneficial?

My "party" is what I pay in taxes. I should have a say in who I invite.

No, I do not like the idea of everyone not working. How would we function as a society?

A hole in my backyard? WTF! And it's me who is being silly

Horse shit!

What you pay in taxes IS NOT YOUR PARTY.

I pay taxes; you pay taxes; most people pay taxes. But they do not get to say what those taxes are used for (or what they cannot be used for) except by voting for whom they want to vote. The congress decides how the taxes are used.

There is no vote for who you get to invite to a party.

I should have a say in who I invite.

Yeah, to your party. The federal treasury IS NOT YOUR PARTY. Vote for whom you choose. That is the way you get a say.

No, I do not like the idea of everyone not working. How would we function as a society?

Just fine...and in my opinion, MUCH BETTER.

Keep the people who do not want to work out of the way. Reward the people who do work (doing work that HAS to be done)...but do not let the people who do not work die of starvation or lack of shelter or lack of medical care or the like.

A barbarian might not be able to understand that (although many would)...so I hope you eventually get to understand it.

A hole in my backyard? WTF! And it's me who is being silly

You are the one agitating for everyone working in order to get things. Tickets to your parties must be at a premium, so...digging holes might be the work you want to require.

Jesus H. Christ. I thought I was debating an adult. What are you...15?

Maybe you need a brain.

There is no such thing as 'direct democracy'. A democracy is government by popular vote. There is no constitution, no elected officers, nothing. Just popular vote. It is an unstable form of government, usually dissolving into a dictatorship or oligarchy before long (Athens became a dictatorship).

I agree with all that except ...

Bingo. Fascism is on the road to communism. They are both socialism.

Agree, and let me add ...

Mussolini, the father of fascism, was a hardcore lifelong Marxist. Who, after witnessing WW1, decided that Marxism (global socialism), would have to begin ... with National Socialism, first

Which is what the democrat party is selling and Biden cultists are buying.

Socialism, of course, will never lead to Communism (Statelessness). Marx and Engles were con men.

What has Hitler to do with the NHS? We stood up to him when you thought he was lovely, kid. What could be more authoritarian than capitalism, arse-licker? That's why Hitler kept it going.

NHS was created 5 years after socialist dictator, Hitler, forced mandatory national health insurance on his subjects. Hmmmm ... ? Where did you get THAT socialist idea? ... from another socialist. :palm:

What is more authoritarian than free enterprise is ... when the politicians and bureaucrats control and operate all business interactions.

Is that what Fucker Carlson told you? Your belief in silly conspiracy theories is laughable. It's hard to have a cogent conversation with someone who is so far detached from reality. You think Trump won the 2020 election. You think the Jan 6 Capitol Insurrection was peaceful. Face it. You believe some pretty weird shit. Do you also believe in Santa Claus and The Tooth Fairy?

The only insurrection is the Brown Shirt one that started on 5/31 ... when you lefwinger Brown Shirts stormed the White House grounds and set DC ablaze. Then rioted, looted and burned Black neighborhoods for 6 long months, looting and rioting and murdering at least 24 people, injured 100's of cops, and created CHAZ Zones where White Libs actually seceded from the gov't. :palm:

False authority fallacy. You cannot use Wikipedia as a reference to anything with me. Too many of it's articles are incomplete, badly written, biased, or just plain wrong. Wikipedia defines no word except 'Wikipedia'. I reject any reference to Wikipedia as a proof or definition. They are nothing but a Holy Link.
Words are not defined by dictionaries either. Dictionaries do not define words. They are used to standardize spelling and provide pronunciations of words, and to give examples of it's use, but words are not defined there. No dictionary owns any word.

Words are define by people over the ages. The study of this is called 'etymology', a hobby of mine.

The word 'democracy' is Greek in origin (remember Athens?). It stems from two Greek words: 'demos', which refers to a citizen of a city or region, and 'kratos', which refers to power or rule...in other words, government.
A democracy is government by popular vote. The phrase 'direct democracy' is redundant. All democracies are 'direct'. No democracy has a constitution, elected officers, or anything of the sort. It is literally solely by vote of the people on every matter...period.

Anyone can work. One of the best piano tuners I ever met was totally blind. He repaired pianos too. Made quite a good business out of that.
Another that I used to work for lost the use of his legs due to polio (contracted from the vaccine), yet he started four successful businesses. He was also the fastest dude in the airport. If you hear those crutches coming your way, get OUT OF THE WAY.

Nothing stopped these people from being successful.

I once hired on a blind DJ. He had no trouble finding any controls in the radio station, once I showed him where they were. Good DJ too. Had a good form on the air.

It is not government's place to force money from me or anyone else just to give it to another. That's not charity. That's theft. That's socialism. That's communism.

How is this thread still active when the original question made no sense whatsoever?

Socialist nations can be democratic or authoritarian.
Authoritarian countries can be socialist or capitalist.

In reality, virtually ALL economies are some kind of hybrid of both.
JPP Reichnuts, in particular, aren't really great with understanding the meaning of words.

I suppose that's why this thread hasn't yet disappeared.

Socialism, of course, will never lead to Communism (Statelessness). Marx and Engles were con men.

The origin of what we now call Marxism started with Plato, not Marx. Marx is just the latest rendition of it, so we tend to call it Marxism.
Socialism is an economic system, not a nation, state, government or any form of government. Socialism is theft of wealth.

Fascism is government manipulation of markets. That exists in every nation in the world, and has included the United States for a very long time.
Communism is government ownership of markets. That also exists in every nation in the world, and has included the United States for a very long time.

Communism will never happen? It's already here, dude, in the form of government welfare payments to farmers, corporations, individuals, etc. Too many people mistake these for 'compassion', but in reality it is theft. It is not charity.

Marxist Stage Theory

Stage 1 – Primitive Communism

Men performed the same economic function – hunter gathering. They worked together in order to survive. There was no private property and there were no classes. Eventually the most successful hunter gatherers gained power and control over the others.

Stage 2 – Imperialism

The strong man ruled. He began by owning all the land but when threatened by outsiders, he would grant land to others in return for military services. A new land-owning aristocracy was therefore created.

Stage 3 – Feudalism

Land was owned by the aristocracy who exploited the peasantry who worked it. There was a surplus of food which the aristocracy sold to others – creating a class of merchants and capitalists who wanted to share political power.

Stage 4 – Capitalism

The wealthy merchants and factory owners (bourgeoisie) obtained political power and exploited the workers (proletariat). As the proletariat became politically aware they would rise up and overthrow the bourgeois government.

Stage 5 – Socialism

There would be a dictatorship of the proletariat as workers’ organisations re-distributed food, goods and services fairly according to need, and profits were shared by all. The middle classes would come to understand that equality was superior to private ownership.

Stage 6 – Communism

Everyone would join together for the common good. Money and government would no longer be needed and society would be class-less. As all countries reached this stage the world would become state-less and competition and wars would cease.

And I will continue to use "direct democracy" to distinguish it from the more common 'representative democracy" despite your personal objections.

SHOW ME AN ACTUAL SOCIALIST NATION, WHERE THE GOVERNMENT OWNS/CONTROLS ALL PRODUCTION and DISTRIBUTION, THAT IS NOT TOTALITARIAN...EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE PLANET.

Bismark started a welfare system in Germany, kid, way back when. Under capitalism, as you know, the rich control everything, especially the minds of the mugs, as you so clearly demonstrate.

I don't know that. The rich doesn't control me. I own my own home, cars, land. I can work where I want, make my own future and the future of my kids.

Not sure where you're getting this fantasy.

There is no such thing as 'representative democracy', so there is nothing to distinguish it from 'democracy'. A democracy is already a 'direct'. That is a redundancy. You have stated that you will continue to be bull-headed about this. Why? Because of what some school taught you about the United States? Guess what? It was wrong.

Since that effectively is the definition of totalitarianism, good luck getting someone to show you anything like an exception to that! :D
