NATO encroachent in Russian Black Sea waters is a war waiting to happen

Russia & the UK have been on sides, for & against- going on 500 years and much of that involved UK attempts rein in/hamper Russian ambitions & expansion..

Personally makes no difference to me who has the Crimea, but Russia did take it in 1783 from the Mongols & Turks who nominally controlled it & the slave trade in Ukrainians, Russians etc...

I don't know of any bitching the UK did @ the time..

We have enough problems & shit to deal w/ already don't we?? :palm:

No No No....these Modern Morons have no interest in dealing with the problems that matter first.

They are way the fuck too ignorant to do that!

Buckle Up.

I think most people would agree that Crimea is 'Russian'.

Despite the bravado and harsh Foreign Ministry statements, the Kremlin is worried. Its control of the Crimea does not compensate for the lag of the Russian surface fleet compared with the capabilities of the key NATO naval powers: the US, the UK and France, which remain the world's only "blue water" navies — i.e., capable of global sea power projection. Russia has almost no chance of catching up, even in the medium term.

Putin knows well that any attempts to push back against NATO's presence on the Black Sea is futile. But, as always, he is afraid to appear "weak" and prefers to "play madman" — even if that means risking lethal consequences.

But the Kremlin's hysterics stopped worrying NATO. The alliance now seems to have taken Putin up on his favorite game: seeing who blinks first.

NATO encroachent in Russian Black Sea waters is a war waiting to happen

When did we concede the Black Sea to Russia? Russia has only 14% of the Black Sea coastline, while NATO nations have 33%. The other 53% is belongs to countries that Russia has partially invaded. That makes the Black Sea more NATO's sea than Russia's.

Ive been saying this is a war waiting to happen ever since NATO warships encroached on Crimean waters.

The next problem -mark my words- will be if/when Ukraine becomes part of NATO and Article 5 then applies to Ukraine

Russian ships often sail along our coastline, which is unfortunately their right under freedom of navigation. Maybe we should start attacking them in retaliation.

I strongly doubt the Ukraine will be invited to join either NATO or the EU. It is too big, and in too much trouble. Instead, it will be kept at arms length, only tacitly protected.

2 different actors.
and this is Russian waters, despite what the Brits say.. their warship was encroaching on Sevastopol itself

Russia claims these waters... Much like China claims their waters. International law disagrees with both.

I remember when the Republicans were not a puppet of the Russians. Reagan is rolling over in his grave.

The kerfuffle around the UK ship in Crimean waters was essentially a commercial - they're selling naval stuff to the Ukrainians, that's all.

I think most people would agree that Crimea is 'Russian'.

Considering that it was already Russian when a drunken USSR leader, Khrushshev , a Ukrainian, handed it to Ukraine without a government quorum - therefore illegally under Russian law- and that almost 100% of Crimeans voted to return to Russia in a recent, legal, referendum then yes, you'd be right.
Should some mindless Western bunglers decide to proceed with taking Ukraine into NATO then Russia will invade it and annex the whole fucking country permanently. Every political dumbass with half an eye on world affairs knows that already.

Don't the Tories have another by-election coming up ?

Haw, haw...............................haw.

What's worse, Russia feels Kiev is their Ancestral Homeland. :(

"Kievan Rus' (Old East Slavic: Роусь, romanized: Rusĭ, or роусьскаѧ землѧ, romanized: rusĭskaę zemlę, "Rus' land") or Kyivan Rus',[2][3] was a loose federation of East Slavic and Uralic peoples in Europe from the late 9th to the mid-13th century,[4][5] under the reign of the Rurik dynasty, founded by the Varangian prince Rurik.[5] The modern nations of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine all claim Kievan Rus' as their cultural ancestors,[6] with Belarus and Russia deriving their names from it."

Your siding with Putin on the disputed water lanes issue near Crimea that was annexed from Ukraine is duly noted, lapdog.

I do & I also think it is between them, not us..

The USA & NATO~ Britain have made several serious blunders since we became "the LONE SUPERPOWER"... Like we can just do what we want & the side effects will not touch us..

The real threat here is China, while we waste time on these types of things they are steadily getting richer & expanding their reach..

Russia launches Mediterranean drills amid rift with UK
The drills come days after Moscow claimed it fired warning shots at a British warship on the Black Sea.

The Russian military has launched sweeping manoeuvres in the Mediterranean Sea featuring warplanes capable of carrying hypersonic missiles, a show of force amid a surge in tensions following an incident with a British destroyer in the Black Sea.

The Russian drills that began on Friday in the Eastern Mediterranean come as a British carrier strike group is in the area.

The Russian Defence Ministry said a pair of MiG-31 fighter jets capable of carrying Kinzhal hypersonic missiles arrived at the Russian airbase in Syria for the exercise. The Hemeimeem airbase, in the coastal province of Latakia, serves as the main hub for Moscow’s operations in the country.

It is the first time the warplanes capable of carrying Kinzhal have been deployed beyond the Russian borders.

The military says the Kinzhal flies at 10 times the speed of sound and has a range of up to 2,000km (about 1,250 miles).

The Defence Ministry said the manoeuvres in the Eastern Mediterranean involve several warships, two submarines and long-range Tu-22M3 bombers along with other combat aircraft.

The supersonic, nuclear-capable Tu-22M3s were first deployed to Syria last month in a demonstration of an increased Russian military foothold in the Mediterranean.

The stupid Brits just provided the Russians with a moral platform for this.

Royal Navy, USA, NATO have a right to respond in kind
has a right? is that how you stop a trip wire war?
Look Crimea is Russian -doesnt matter whom recognizes what, but the facts on the ground
