Yes. Paroles and early release from military courts are rare.

Those guys fucked themselves in more ways than one. IMO, their best defense is an insanity defense and then roll over on everyone they know.

I doubt Trump actually met with the militias to plan the Insurrection. Trump is smart enough to send Junior or Ivanka so he keeps his hands clean.

Regardless, I'd bet money the militias are going to seek revenge for Trump's betrayal even if they can't directly access Trump himself.

There's actually two violent groups here; the Qless and the militias.

The Qless will do whatever Trump tells them even if he betrayed the Qless too. They are all fucking nuts.

The militias vary a bit but mainly ardent and violent anti-government groups and self-styled "home guard" types. The latter group are usually small, informal and local. The former groups are larger and include the Proud Boys, Boogaloo Bois and Oath Keepers. It's those three who were heavily involved in the Insurrection and have been tied to Trump for the past few years. They are the ones most likely to feel betrayed but be violent enough to do something about it.

Well, the guy who was just sentenced to 8 months in the federal pen and a $2000 fine made an impassioned apology. He'll have plenty of time to think about it and decide if he messed up.

I think you're right. Once they were in the gauntlet that the doors would have created, shooting would have forced them to back off. I'm quite sure that nobody expected what eventually happened, and were following protocol.

The problem with police shooting someone is the fact they are damned if they do and damned if they don't afterwards. If you recall all the past riots other than the insurrection were about Chauvin killing George Floyd. So if these Capitol Police or the MPD shot and killed a bunch of Trump supporters they would be on trial instead of these Trump assholes.

Without question, cooler heads prevailed and only one of the insurrectionists had to be put down for attempted murder.
