Texas Judge Blocks Greg Abbott’s Ban On School Mask Mandate=Good!

Really? How so? Explain yourself.

A Tu quoque fallacy is committed when you make the argument into a "You too" or "I know you are what am I?" one. That is what you did above. You made the argument into one of You should make sure your own house is clean before poking around at others. It's a form of Tu Quoque.

I can't help it that Texas is a Shithole State where the grid falls apart every couple months, and a deadly disease is spreading uncontrolled among children.

You get to own all that shit.

Ad hominem coupled to a rant

But didn't the previous election laws prevent that?

Doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement or that the election process is evolving. We used to do elections virtually totally in person. Mail-in balloting was a rarity. Now it is becoming more mainstream. Providing new laws governing that practice would seem prudent, for example.

So again, why not just enforce the laws you already have, since those laws already led to a clean election in Texas?

I'm sure they do. Adding new ones or modifying existing ones to strengthen them would seem smart and prudent.

Unless...you now think that Trump's win in Texas wasn't legit....

Red herring.

There are no loopholes to close because Texas ran a clean election last year.

Not true. Texas could have a clean election and loopholes could exist. The two are not mutually inclusive. Finding that loopholes exist and plugging them seems prudent. A good example is banning ballot harvesting.

So these laws aren't about protecting the vote, they're about something else...

False conclusion from erroneous logic.

No it wasn't. All I said was that before you start messing with other people, you need to check your own situation first before opening your big, fat mouth.

It actually seems to me like you're upset that I diminish your competency by bringing up the fact that everything and everyone you support ALWAYS fails in the end.

Ad hominem coupled to a rant

I don't understand why you aren't proud of the grid collapse and the pandemic proliferating among children...both are what you've always wanted, so why are you suddenly now avoiding it?

Doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement or that the election process is evolving.

How so? If the election laws were so strict that there wasn't any widespread fraud, that disproves the need for laws to combat fraud that doesn't exist.

So obviously, the laws are about something else.

We used to do elections virtually totally in person

In the 2016 election, nearly 1/4 of all votes, 33,000,000, were ballots cast in the mail, and most of them were Republicans who voted for Trump.

So you're reminiscing about something that never happened.

Mail-in balloting was a rarity. Now it is becoming more mainstream.

So? The rules don't change, and there was no widespread mail-in voting fraud.

So you keep saying that there WILL BE fraud, but that's just you making a wish because there was no fraud in the 2020 election, YOU JUST LOST IT BECAUSE YOUR CANDIDATES WERE TERRIBLE and you fucked up the pandemic.

I'm sure they do. Adding new ones or modifying existing ones to strengthen them would seem smart and prudent.

Why? They worked impeccably in 2020...unless you're going to say that Texas' election wasn't legit...which would mean Trump didn't win it, Cornyn didn't win it, no Republican won there.

So is that what you're saying?

Not true. Texas could have a clean election and loopholes could exist. The two are not mutually inclusive.

So you don't think Trump legitimately won in Texas if you're saying that there were loopholes.

Finding that loopholes exist and plugging them seems prudent. A good example is banning ballot harvesting.

What loopholes? What are you talking about? So you don't know of any loopholes, you're just sure they exist because...?

There is nothing inherently wrong or evil with ballot harvesting, Republicans practice it everywhere.

The trouble comes when those who are harvesting the ballots alter or change them, like what happened in NC-09 in 2018 when the Conservatives there changed and altered the ballots so the Republican would win.

False conclusion from erroneous logic.

The false conclusion from erroneous logic lies with those who insist the potential for widespread fraud exists despite a lack of evidence, based on the fact that they lost an election they were sure to lose because they're incompetent, corrupt, or just plain stupid.

If I was Abbott, I'd tell the schools they have to provide a fresh mask for every student every day and the cost will come out of their current budget and operating funds. No new funds will be appropriated.

It'd be less than a nanosecond before schools and teacher's unions in Texas wanted nothing to do with masks.
Want to bet!

i suspect a lot of texas parents will make sure their kids have masks. Some of them care more about their kids than they do Trump. Not all of them though.

The point is to try to limit the spread of the disease, not help it.

Let the children live!

Let everyone live.

Prevent children from spreading the pandemic to others who may be more at risk.

We're trying to eradicate the disease, not enable it.

That point scores exactly zero.

Here's why:

We are not having pandemics with those more contagious diseases.

The right never made the vaccines for those diseases political, so there was enough participation in inoculation programs to shut those diseases down.

We've had pandemics with those other diseases. We didn't shut down the country or economy, make everyone wear a mask 24/7 everywhere they went, and didn't change our lives near irreparably over them. This time around, many--even most--did. I didn't. I haven't done one damn thing different than I did before Chinese Disease and will continue to do so. Hell, parents regularly used to have chicken pox parties to get all the kids deliberately infected and get them immune at an early age.

I will add this: My faith in government health institutions has been seriously degraded. I no longer think these groups like the CDC, NIHS, etc., can be trusted to know or tell us the truth with any reasonable degree of accuracy. I no longer listen to their advice. They've cried 'wolf' one too many times now.

Watch Fox News much?

Here's why I ask:

Nearly every single person who watches Fox News has lost confidence in government. It is the purpose of Fox News to cause distrust and division in our country.

Trust in government was fairly steady until the advent of Fox News, after which it has declined precipitously.

That model of sewing distrust and division gets viewership and sells product, makes the owners rich, but it is corrosive to our country. Roger Ailes built Fox News to be a mouthpiece for the right, and Roger Ailes was also a total sleaze with no morals. The model that he built was very successful for making lots of money, spreading hatred, and dividing our country.

I would suggest that instead of expecting perfection out of government that it is more practical to recognize that government is made of people, people make mistakes, people learn from mistakes, people should be forgiven, and that our government is working for us, we the people, and none of us is perfect. Not even the people among us who work hard for our government.

I would also point out that pretending there is no threat from the pandemic is unwise, and the best course of action is to recognize the threat; and to modify interactions with other humans, because prolonged close contact is how the disease spreads, and it does cause death in far too many cases.

Anyone who has compassion for others should join the efforts to prevent transmission of the disease.

There are multitudes of stories of people who have blown off taking any precautions, refused masking and vaccines, and found themselves fighting for their lives on a vent in the ICU. They beg for the vaccine when it is too late, and their final words are advice to listen to the CDC.

Texas already had strict laws about that stuff...so strict, that the 2020 election in Texas had no reported widespread fraud.

So what's the purpose?

Are you saying the previous laws weren't good enough, even though the 2020 election went flawlessly in Texas?

If not, why would these laws be any better?

Stop it! Just stop using logic! It hurts their pointy little heads!

BTW, excellent questions.
