There are wild unsubstantiated stories of attacks by the Taliban in Afghanistan. It is possible that a nutcase with weapons did something stupid. What we should focus on is the Americans and helped are being processed out of the country by the planeload every couple of hours. Did anyone think the Taliban would sit down while we evacuated? This is remarkably quiet and cooperative.

Sure, but when a nation collapses a lot of bad shit happens in chaos. The Afghan army has collapsed and fled. They'll take their small arms with them, but that leaves all the heavy equipment and armories full of heavier machine guns, rockets and motor pools of tanks and armored vehicles. Who ever wants them and can hold them gets to keep them.

Same with local areas. The woman who got shot may have been an ex or had spurned advances of the shooter previously. It's chaos. When the government collapses there is no authority except Might Makes Right.

Regardless, unless we planned to be there for another couple generations colonizing fucking Afghanistan, we needed to leave. Sticking around just so others died in vain is not a valid reason to get more people killed.

If everything is "fine" why are there no updates from the President bragging about how well things are going? I've not seen a single instance of anything remarkably quiet or cooperative.... Not even the lone nutcase with the weapons...
