A district judge in Texas has issued a temporary restraining order against Texas Right to Life, blocking the anti-abortion group from suing abortion providers employed by Planned Parenthood under the state's strict new abortion law, according to a copy of the order provided by Planned Parenthood.

The law, which took effect this week, bans abortions after as early as six weeks into pregnancy and allows private citizens to bring civil suits against anyone who assists a pregnant person seeking an abortion in violation of the law. It is among the strictest in the nation and bars abortions just after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is often before a woman knows that she is pregnant.
Judge Maya Guerra Gamble in Travis County ruled that the medical providers faced "probable, irreparable, and imminent injury" if they were sued by the private group in connection with abortions as early as six weeks into pregnancy, as provided for under the law.

Planned Parenthood health facilities in Texas had filed the lawsuit in Travis County District Court on Thursday night, contending, "At every turn, S.B. 8 purports to replace normal civil-litigation rules and clearly established constitutional rules with distorted versions designed to maximize the harassing nature of the lawsuits and to make them impossible to fairly defend against."
Helene Krasnoff, vice president of public policy litigation and law at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, praised the order on Friday, saying in a statement, "We are relieved that the Travis County district court has acted quickly to grant this restraining order against Texas Right to Life and anyone working with them as deputized enforcers of this draconian law."

Pro-lifers and forced birthers are two different things. I'm pro-life but think it's disgustingly used as a political cudgel rather than helping life.

What's that commonly cited definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result even though it's always the same?

Abortion is a prime example. The fake conservatives of the country used a series of despicable tactics to steal at least two Supreme Court seats. Everyone knew the goal was to overturn Roe v. Wade. And just like magic, the old men on the Court (and Coney Barrett, a predictable type of self-hating "conservative" woman) decided that women should not be allowed to make decisions about their own bodies.

Well, that's awful, but let's look a little further down the road. Old, white people (and Clarence Thomas's Uncle Tom ass) don't reflect the demographics, values, or society of the US any longer. They're still a huge part of it, of course, but they can't continue to rule by fiat. These final death throes of the failed conservative movement and the aggrieved white soon-to-be minority are simply indications that they lost the culture war; and they are fucking pissed about it.

I make the distinction between pro-life and anti-choice. I hope we would be hard pressed to find many people who are not "pro-life". The slip into evil, however, comes with "anti-choice".

are you butthurt over that perfectly legal political manuever??????

No. I don't linger on that kind of thing. I just remember it for conversations like these. And will remember to send this post back to you at the appropriate time. ;)

not sure how you can make that work..............blocking merrick was also a perfectly legal political maneuver.............

what I find ironically amusing and about as hypocritical as the democrats/liberals/progressives get is their desire to sit liberal judges in order to overturn the 2nd Amendment, Heller, and Mcdonald.........

Yeah basically if we tell them we are pro-choice, they accuse us of supporting abortion and killing babies. It's despicable.

Ok. So in the space of two posts you have gone from abortion to the Republican party's theft of the Supreme Court to COVID vaccines to guns. You're a fucking schizophrenic. I really can't deal with word salad Fox repeaters. You bore me to tears.

Anyone who thinks white people will "soon" be a minority in the near future is delusional.

Whites still represent around 2/3 of the US population and their birth rate has not come to a halt.

The fastest growing segment of the population, FWIU is Hispanics and they are not reliably liberal.

But white people will continue to be the dominant race in this country in terms of numbers, for decades to come.

Like getting a vaccine . . .

I can't even with that stupidity. Jesus fucking christ, you people become measurably dumber every day.

it's easy to tell the lower intelligent beings, like yourself, in any given debate, like this one, that when you beat them upside the head with their own petard, they resort to a refusal to back their position and instead just resort to trumperism..........

it's mostly amusing and allows me to dismiss you as a bottom dweller who can't survive on their own......

it's not boredom, it's your intellectual inability to see a bigger picture. you're limited intelligence forces you to deal with singular subjects............par for the course of most two party ideologues

Dude you went from a judge blocking the group to vaccine and 2nd Amendment.

Are you a scatterbrain?

Yeah basically if we tell them we are pro-choice, they accuse us of supporting abortion and killing babies. It's despicable.

I had a a really incredible conversation along these lines last Monday at 5:00 in the morning when my buddy was dropping me off at the airport. So many people, but especially American "conservatives", have devolved into the most elementary form of binary thought I think is possible among our species. Even dogs can think in a linear way that is more cognitively advanced than the binary thought of American conservatives.

Their minds have been so pickled that they can only comprehend every aspect of existence as "either/or", "black/white", "right/wrong", "good/bad", "us/them". Add that binary thinking to two more things.

1.) We live in an age of anti-intellectualism where the lessons of the Enlightenment have been completely abandoned by a huge amount of the population. These people don't remember their fourth grade lessons about the scientific method. They don't believe in medicine. They don't know history. They think everything is relative, that there are no universal truths, and that their uninformed opinions that were taught to them by talk radio and Fox News Nazis somehow stand on par with international scientific consensus.

2.) Their media overlords and relentless pursuit for confirmation bias have determined for them that the single greatest enemy on the planet is liberalism and progressivism. They will use the last flailing movement of their twitching arms and the last soggy dollar in between their mattresses to annoy liberals. It's literally all they live for. They hate liberals more than they love their own families and country. They think that they can continue to poke at the smoldering embers of the culture wars and find a way to maybe win this time. It's awful and pathetic.

I don't support abortions. That would be like supporting euthanasia. I do, however, know that people sometimes have to make difficult decisions that weigh on them for untold time. The last thing they need is a bunch of crusty, old piece of shit JPP motherfuckers telling them what they are and are not allowed to do with their own bodies during a physical and emotional challenge that most of the "pro-life" assholes couldn't even begin to comprehend and certainly wouldn't be able to survive themselves.

Or you're just a liar. The US will become minority white by 2045. This has been the forecast since I was born in 1983. Get a clue.
