Oct 28 (Reuters) - Oklahoma on Thursday conducted its first execution in six years, putting John Grant to death after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a stay of execution for him and another man, even as public support for the death penalty diminishes.

Grant, 60, died by lethal injection at 4:21 p.m. (2121 GMT), the state said.

His death marked the first in Oklahoma since three botched executions in 2014 and 2015, using a three-drug protocol that has been questioned as possibly causing a slow and painful death.

After Grant died on Thursday, his lawyer, Sarah Jernigan, said he had tried to atone and understand his actions "more than any other client I have worked with."

She said he was a victim of brutality both at home and at the hands of Oklahoma's youth detention system, and did not receive mental health treatment, ultimately murdering prison employee Gay Carter in 1998 while incarcerated for another crime.

The last-minute intervention from the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a stay of execution for Grant and Julius Jones, who is scheduled to be put to death on Nov. 18.

In other words this one was bad from the start, and refused to stop.

I am not in favor of the death penalty for for anything but treason, occasionally, but I am in favor of the Regressive Left learning that there are people like this, who must be dealt with, the earlier the better.

Life is not a Barney set.

State Baby.

The State raises people that have to be kept under the jail always. If they ever get free, they're going to rape and kill.

The left knows we have prisons.

Was he 'Black'? Was he a 'Muslim'? Was he a 'Woman'? If not, ... who cares?

What does someone's race, religion or gender have to do with anything, considering many so-called white men in particular have been executed, in particular, Texas? When someone is sentenced to death for justifiable reasons in these days with the extremities of courts and legal process to ensure in 2021 no errors are made at executing innocent people, there must be some justification there as in without the preponderance of the doubt of guilt. Actually seditious republicans and their head insurrectionist tRump should be further intensely investigated and based on the evidence, charged with capital crimes as in high treason based on U.S. Constitutional law, at ultimately being in defense of Democracy versus their destructive and uncivilized atrocities on humanity and its soul.

OK. Good Point. If Trump (and his Inner Circle) were Executed, that would bring a LOT OF INTEREST to the Topic.

Other than some 'supposed oppressed group', does anyone care about a killer being Killed?

people with morals. perhaps all those folks who call themselves "pro-life" except when it comes to adults strapped to gurneys? perhaps those who claim to be christian and know just how fucked up you have to be to believe Jesus would be cool with the state paying a stranger to come in and murder a person strapped to a gurney. try to think, jackass.

if it was proven capital punishment was an actual deterrent, and saved lives, it might could be considered- but it does not- states that execute and countries that execute have higher murder rates, generally. so fuck that shit.

Well, it's my opinion that the general population has moved on from the Evening Vigil on Execution Night that was once somewhat popular. The 'Christian Crowd' is now more at home at the Trump Rally than holding a Gathering at Midnight with the Candles.

Yeah, they don't draw the crowds like they used to
