the single most important takeaway of the rittenhouse trial

The aren't "assault" rifles. They look like them. But in order to get the "assault" definition, they have to have selective fire from automatic to semiauto.

I own one. I built it. I don't really care what others "believe" about it. But someone comes breaking into my home and threatening me and my family, they will find out why I will use it.
;)

I think you misunderstand my disbelief in “assault” rifles. I couldn’t care less that someone has a dreaded fully auto rifle … or a Sherman tank for that matter. To each his own.

The rifle I refer to trading for when I was 13 was just a semi-auto 22 with a detachable magazine. Not plastic, black or scary looking. It wasn’t much different than what the Rittenhouse kid had, was it?

Liberal gun grabbers can call them “assault” rifles all the want, much like the Jack fellow has done throughout this thread. That doesn’t make it so.

Rittenhouse could have just as easily been killed. Willingly inserting yourself in that situation (on either side) is dumb.

Treating him like some vigilante hero is just as dumb.

yes, he was the proverbial idiot for putting himself there at his age.
some are treating him as a hero, sure. I'm not one of them. But I am thrilled that he escaped a liberal lynching through the judicial system

Rittenhouse could have just as easily been killed.

Very true. Do you think the MSM would have lied about the thugs who attacked had he died and wrung their hands over Kyle? :palm:

Willingly inserting yourself in that situation (on either side) is dumb.

Running around cities burning and looting and attacking armed law abiding citizens dumber still.

So your argument is that the good people of that city should have just allowed the violent thugs to burn and loot their businesses and properties? That doesn't make any sense.

Treating him like some vigilante hero is just as dumb.

Strawman. Those are YOUR words and those of the lying PHONY media. No one is calling him a vigilante much less a hero. :palm:

Was it a good idea? I can' answer, but I do know that when the riots were going on in Minneapolis over the death of the thug that resisted arrest for 10 minutes, many people immediately went to the storefronts along Lake Street in Minneapolis and most of those businesses were saved. I work in the firearms industry and live in the suburbs of that city and I decided to remain at home but I have many co-workers that successfully warded off attacks of jewelry stores and pawn shops with nothing more than an armed presence.

Wisconsin was a very unfortunate situation but I am very surprised there were not a lot more looters and rioters that wound up taking the asphalt temperature challenge.

The lesson, stay home but if you find yourself in the middle of a situation like that, don't bring a skateboard to a gunfight.

Unfortunately some will treat him like a hero. But what many of us are celebrating is the upholding of ones constitutional right to arm oneself, especially when in a dangerous situation, and the right to use the weapon for self defense if attacked. If no one chased him or threatened him it is very possible nothing ever would have happened…but we’ll never know that. We do know that he was attacked and defended himself.

You have said that the smart thing for him to have done was to stay home. I agree. Sadly he did not. He was not smart in that decision.

They were riled up because the medial lied about the police shooting an “unarmed” man.

they were stupid. its not like the rifle was concealable nor was it a toy.

if you're going to pull the tiger's tail you better have a plan for his claws...

ultimate fail for two outta three.

OK. Let me ask you this. Since Rittenhouse was found Not Guilty of killing these guys,

First off, Rittenhouse was not found not guilty of killing these guys. He did kill these guys. He was found to be acting in self defense and thus, was not guilty of murder.

It's lame bullshit like this that makes me weary debating with people who can't get even the most basic OBVIOUS facts right.
:palm:

is it OK to convict those 3 guys from S. Carolina*of killing Aubry?

If you watched the evidence and the video of the Aubry case. It is apparent that the media is once again LYING about the case. Aubrey wasn't a jogger, nor was he jogging. He was running away from people curious why he was caught trespassing.

Initially, it was only about curiosity from the local neighbors. It become elevated when Aubrey refused to engage and then attempted to grab Travis McMichael's shotgun while beating him with his fists.

So, if you believe that when someone is trying to disarm you while beating you is not intent on using your weapon against you, you're probably a mental case, a liar, or just stupid.
:palm:

Each 'Team' to claim Victory then.

The only victory is the American justice system when it ignores mob rule and actually adjudicates based on facts. Unfortunately for the Marxist BLM organization and Democratic Party of Lying Jackasses, we still aren't a lawless third world one party sewer. ;)

Perspective of a law professor and philosopher:

As legal positivists like to say: What the law is, and what it ought to be, are two separate questions. The law permitted Rittenhouse to interject himself into the scene of a civil disturbance, to carry a powerful rifle openly, and to defend himself against others. The acquittal is not surprising, quite apart from the fact that the judge in the case was not very competent and a bit of a buffoon. The problem here was not the trial, but the law: the law should not permit civilians to own, let alone carry, military weapons, and it should impose a much higher standard for the use of deadly force for self-defense. But this is America, and America is a very sick country alas.

Good observation. America is fucked up.

He picked up the gun after crossing state lines, but it was a straw purchase by his friend and that's illegal.
No in a straw purchase the guy illegally purchasing the gun has unrestricted use of the gun. Rittenhouse did not possess the gun it was locked in a gun safe in his friend's home in a different state.. He only got to use it at an adult's discretion. NO ONE has been convicted of a straw purchase yet.
