2 trials, 1 theme: White men taking law into their own hands

The trials of Kyle Rittenhouse and three men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery had vastly different outcomes. But coming just days apart, they laid bare a dangerous and long-running current in the fight for racial equality: The move by some white Americans to grab guns and take their own stand against perceptions of lawlessness, particularly by Black people.

That was the stupidest take imaginable. Everyone who read that article lost brain cells.

Doesn't disprove that Racist Colonists used gun control to submit Black slaves & Natives at Wounded Knee.

"Racist colonists?" There were no Black slaves at Wounded Knee. The original 1890 Wounded Knee massacre occurred primarily because a native named Wovoka, a self-proclaimed tribal shaman / medicine man, started the Ghost Dance movement and claimed following him would cleanse the Earth of White men. Like many cults before and since, those that bought in were led to disaster and in this case the Wounded Knee Massacre. The 300 native participants that took part and were killed, left the reservation and were heavily armed. The US Army was brought in to disarm this group. When they refused to be disarmed and refused to return to the reservation fighting broke out and the Army regiment sent shot down all 300.

It was a minor incident given the overall history of Native Americans and their relationship to Europeans.

Black slaves of course didn't have firearms. But Blacks who weren't slaves could and did possess them regularly.
