The parents were told the kid needs counseling.

If you are claiming that this is about bullying, that makes it worse.

The parents had the option to enroll the kid in karate class. They opted to hand him a gun.

They should die in prison. They are terrible parents.

I guess now we blame the school for putting what little funding they have into education instead of metal detectors and officers who search every book bag before letting the 1,600 (per the school's Wikipedia entry) students enter.

ETA: The CNN story on their apprehension. So it appears that they were just going to skip out and leave their kid hanging in the wind to face his future w/o their support.

What evidence is there the kid was bullied? All I've seen is a kid who is very disturbed and probably with a schizoid personality disordered.

TBH, the fucking parents don't strike me as being 100% either.

Gun locks. Most new guns come with them. Locks are sold at gun stores. When was the last time you bought a gun?.....or aren't you legal to do so?

It's the parents fault since they were fully aware he had a gun. A loaded one at that.

The only good news is that the kid wasn't a very good shot.

Double expert (rifle and pistol) every year of service except my first year where I earned only a Sharpshooter in pistol. I was on a couple of rifle teams as a kid so I knew how to shoot a rifle at 18.

After my Sharpshooter score I bought a Browning HiPower and used that for practice. It's the same pistol I took on my Med deployment.
