SCOTUS decision on Roe could flip the script on the midterms

The extreme right - which is now the GOP - has miscalculated on this one. I think SCOTUS will reverse the precedent, and we'll start to see bans and restrictive measures in red states.

A majority of Americans support a legal right to abortion, and close to 70% oppose the idea of overturning Roe. We've always been told it could "never" be overturned. It definitely can be.

It's an earthquake if it happens. Whenever we go too far in one direction, voters make sure we tip the scales back the other way.

Republicans always are stuck in a weird netherworld where their base wants them to do crazy things, but the majority of voters will punish them if they do. So to win a nomination, they must promise all sorts of craziness, but to win general elections they must never do anything. The alt right is furious with them for never delivering on their promises.

Republicans have promised for 40 years to reverse Roe v. Wade. They have two thirds of the judges. The only thing stopping them is they know doing so would mean they would lose badly in the next couple of elections.

I just LOVE the smell of Irony!

As an issue, abortion isn't very important to many voters. Since about 2000, it has held pretty steady as an important issue for only about 20 to 25% of the electorate. The rest see it as just one of many issues to consider, or don't consider it important at all. That means its impact on elections is pretty minimal.

You might launch an investigation into what the American People think of abortion.

The bolded isn't scientific. It's just your opinion.

Like I said, overturning Roe would be an earthquake. People may not care about the issue much, but it's a signal that things are moving too far right for many.

Your opinion is no more valid than mine. There are only two groups that really take abortion seriously as a political issue:

The radical Left and the religious Right. Outside those two minority groups of voters people don't rank it high as an issue. If Roe went away and each state got to decide its own policy, I seriously doubt it would change much of anything.

Abortion is certainly NOT going to be a pivotal issue in 2022 or 2024.

if red states are passing laws then clearly those citizens support them.

The only reason a majority favor infanticide is because the majority occupy a few tiny chunks of real estate. Most of the country does not. If it did then it should be simple to pass some congressional legislation to the contrary.

Overturn Roe v. Wade, and it very quickly becomes a pivotal issue. But if you do not overturn Roe v. Wade, Republican voters start asking why they have wasted 40 years voting for Republicans who have no intention of ever overturning Roe v. Wade.

It’s going to be overturned, Walter and the impact will be that millions of unborn children will not be murdered.

Whatever else overturning Roe v. Wade will do, it would force the majority of voters to vote against the Republican Party.

That is the reason it has not been overturned yet.

Supreme Court decision in June... It’s going to be overturned, Walter and the impact will be that millions of unborn children will not be murdered.

The House and probably the Senate are going to be flipped in November,

Then impeachment can begin against Biden.

They overturn Roe v. Wade, and that starts looking very doubtful.

Pay attention, Walter.

Roe is going to be overturned and the Republicans are going to flip the House and probably the Senate.

Count on it.

And miley can be tried for TREASON

And right now some black groups are looking for its return.

Indeed, Grump...indeed.

Gen. Miley should be in federal prison.

He colluded with the Chinese and violated the chain of command when he told our enemy, the Communist Chinese, that he would contact then before we attacked.

I don't see that moving the needle enough. The problem is the midterms will be a referendum on Biden. He has lost the hearts and minds.

Republicans have successfully made COVID far worse than it ever needed to be, some of them even sacrificing themselves, all to 'stick it to the libs.' This has resulted in seriously damaging the USA, making inflation worse, but most voters won't make the connection. They just blame Biden. They've got their scapegoat, and you can't tell them any different.

Most Americans are not very well informed.

The people who do support Roe are the ones who REALLY support freedom. Not the ones who just give is lip service.

You may be right - but I saw some encouraging things on COVID yesterday. They're looking at post-Omicron S. Africa, and some feel optimistic that we could get back to a real "normal life" by spring or summer at the latest.

That would certainly turn the tide on some perceptions - and give a real boost for the economy.
