New critical race theory laws have teachers scared, confused and self-censoring

A Utah student group was called “Black and Proud.” The principal had it renamed. A New Hampshire history teacher used to discuss current events in a unit about race and economics. No more. And Florida school officials canceled a lecture for teachers on the history of the civil rights movement while they considered whether it would violate state rules.

In 13 states, new laws or directives govern how race can be taught in schools, in some cases creating reporting systems for complaints. The result, teachers and principals say, is a climate of fear around how to comply with rules they often do not understand.

No surprise the right wing is an enemy of free speech.

Stupid is as stupid does. This is going to backfire in the courts and the idiots who pass such laws will have to backpedal.

More tax payer money wasted on lawyers in courtrooms over stupid shit.

Some officials have made it clear they are on the lookout for transgressions. In a speech last year, Richard Corcoran, the Florida education commissioner, said it was important to “police” teachers to make sure they are not indoctrinating students with a liberal agenda.

“I’ve censored or fired or terminated numerous teachers,” he said. “There was an entire classroom memorialized to Black Lives Matter and we made sure she was terminated.”

If you teach racial hatred and separation of the “oppressed” and “oppressors” to first graders (or any other classes) you will be terminated,

Yeah, that's bullshit there.

If it was like that when I was that age, I probably would have been killed. There was no massive racist hate in the young ones back then..

Good thing, too. I was 1 white spot of 2 in a sea of black faces. Seriously, out of 30-something kids, 2 were white and I was 1 of those 2.

Ghetto Fun-Dip:

Yesterday's Sno-ball wooden spoon + pack of sugared Kool-Aid

I used to be jealous of kids that had that!

I remember these sealed paper straws full of flavored sugar...Pixie Sticks?

Yeah, I never had those bought for me..

Not one black from first to twelfth grade, not one black in my engineering class at Vanderbilt.

Peace and quiet, it’s a bit different now.

O wow, I remember jr. high..

There'd be 2 blacks selling out to each other with like 10 people on either side holding them back..

and thinking "I bet they don't do shit if they both get let go at the same time".

And the bell rings and everybody just goes to class. Them boys never did fight.

There was never any trouble with the few black families.

Small town, perhaps 800-900 residents...30 or 40 black families. All hardworking.

It was, of course, racial separation but it worked. Many blacks want separation now but the white liberals will never allow it.

Ah yes. The good old days, when blacks knew their place and that it wasn't in college, but behind the counter.

I didn’t say that racial separation was good or bad, just that it was extant and it was, for the most part, peaceful.

I believe that a majority of Blacks support racial separation...along with equal opportunities, but white liberals would have no issue to keep the races at each other’s throats. It’s their only issue.

No surprise the right wing is an enemy of free speech.

But this is the goal of the fascists; to make public education so terrible, the only choice is to get rid of it completely.

That is what the GOP wants...they don't even want local control of the schools anymore, they now simply don't want the schools to even exist.

I lived in the city, baby. There was about that many kids or more just in the school.

This one jr. high was absolutely lawless. No discipline, fights and knife fights every day during lunch.

Yeah, we got the hell outta there.

Its generally taken for granted now that the bigotry in this country goes along with the hate that drives the right wing.

Or maybe Earl grew up in a whiter area, just like you did.

"Population of 900". Just my neighborhood was like 12K.

I grew up in the STL area. We moved there from Dayton when I was 8. I never saw a non-white person in real life till we moved to St. Louis.

Love the correlations that the q anon people make , the funny part is I'm assuming they think someone who has the capacity to think will support their goofiness.
