The Cold Math of Securing Schools

The energy isn't based strictly on the size of the bullet. It's also the velocity. The formula for bullet energy involves squaring velocity, so velocity winds up far more consequential than bullet mass. Rifles can have muzzle velocities well over 3,000 fps... well over twice what you'd get from, say, a 357 magnum revolver.

The formula, in imperial units, is that bullet energy, in foot-pounds, equals bullet weight in grains times the square of bullet velocity in feet per minute, divided by 450,437. So, if you have a 60 gr bullet going 1,500 fps, that's about 300 foot-pounds of energy. If you have a 30 gr bullet going 3,000 fps, that's about 600 foot-pounds of energy. You doubled the speed, halved the mass, and came away with twice the power.

That's a huge consideration with these high-power rifles -- they may be firing small bullets, but they're firing them at incredible velocities, such that they're imparting an enormous amount of energy.

It's about foot pounds of energy presumptuous expert. A .308 has a lower muzzle velocity but higher energy at impact. Leftists know nothing about weapons or the ballistics. They just see a scary rifle and freak out.

ALL rifles are high powered. Most higher caliber rifles, which don't seem to concern dipshits in the Democratic Party of the Jackass, can cause far more damage than a .22 bullet. Which is why they don't allow you to hunt with them.

So what is your point presumptuous dipshit? Do you believe that Biden or Democrats in the House have the slightest clue about weapons? Biden's latest foray was, again, moronic. He claimed that a .9 mm would blow pout your lungs. Want to see how dumb? Watch the video.

I wouldn't call myself an expert.... just someone who knows more about the topic than you do, but it's not like that takes much.

It's hilarious that you'd tell me "it's about foot pounds of energy" when I just said exactly that and even went farther to give you the actual formula for calculating the foot pounds of energy.

It's funny how many right-wingers know nothing about weapons or ballistics, but imagine that somehow spending their days fellating right-wing politicians on social media has conferred some special knowledge of the subject.

He claimed that a .9 mm would blow pout your lungs.

If you take a 9mm hollow point in the chest, it can, in fact, do massive damage to the lungs... especially if it's coming out of rifle/carbine, such that the velocity (and therefore energy) is high. Trauma surgeons have noted the vast damage that can be caused by high-velocity rounds:

https://www.theatlantic.com/politic...land-should-change-the-debate-on-guns/553937/

That's related to Parkland, where it was a .223-caliber, which is a relatively low-mass projectile, just like a 9mm.

"The organ looked like an overripe melon smashed by a sledgehammer, and was bleeding extensively. How could a gunshot wound have caused this much damage? The reaction in the emergency room was the same. One of the trauma surgeons opened a young victim in the operating room, and found only shreds of the organ that had been hit by a bullet from an AR-15, a semiautomatic rifle that delivers a devastatingly lethal, high-velocity bullet to the victim. Nothing was left to repair—and utterly, devastatingly, nothing could be done to fix the problem. The injury was fatal."

Indeed.

She is a recent high school graduate.

I wouldn't call myself an expert.

That's the first honest thing I have seen you post.

Another lie. Have you ever bothered to fire a weapon? Loaded ammunition and know about their ballistics? I have.

What you illustrate here is a presumptuous know-nothing who can cut and paste gibberish and try to pass it off as your own.
:palm:

If you take a 9mm hollow point in the chest, it can, in fact, do massive damage to the lungs

Much like a .38 hollow point, or even a .380 hollow point. Much worse, a .40 or .45 hollow point at much lower barrel velocities. It's not about velocity dumbass. It's about mass.

However, the point of the argument escapes your myopic point of view. Biden singling out the 9mm is moronic. There are far more lethal calibers one can use.

Much like the obsession with the 5.56mm bullet. There are far more lethal calibers out there available in semi-automatic rifles. Singling out the AR15 as some despotic scary weapon only criminals use is moronic which is the point about Biden's stupidity and simple minded ignorance.

This is why I don't like arguing with fools like you. They can't comprehend the topic and then they spam the thread with gibberish in a vain attempt to appear to know what they are bloviating about.

Absurdity; the last desperate refuge for the ignorant, the dishonest and the stupid. Run along child. The adults are talking. :palm:

Have you ever bothered to fire a weapon? Loaded ammunition and know about their ballistics?

Of course I have. Wingnuts have this tendency to imagine that experience with guns is some sort of rare thing that only the Conservative Elect have. I'm an American for God's sake. We have more guns than people. Of course I've fired guns, and loaded them. And, as I just schooled you in the subject of ballistics, you KNOW I know about them.

There are far more lethal calibers one can use.

Of course. If I had the choice of being hit by a 9mm or a 50-caliber bullet, I'd go for the former, assuming matching velocities. But the point the ignorant wingnuts missed, when they dismissed the idea that smaller caliber weapons can still be high-powered, is that the amount of power involved depends exponentially more on velocity than on mass. Twice the velocity and half the mass can still give you twice the force at impact.

Much like the obsession with the 5.56mm bullet.

If we were obsessed with that bullet, would this be the first time we were broaching the topic? Obsession should be made of sterner stuff.

Look, I get it: you were ignorant of how ballistics work, and it hurt your feelings to be schooled in the topic. But just suck it up and deal. You're less ignorant that you were this morning. You're welcome.

Once again, for the myopic, self appointed expert on all things ballistic, the point isn't about "right wingers" or the "number of guns" households have. It's about Biden singling out the 9mm which was moronic.

Now run along you smarmy, obnoxious unimportant little know-nothing.

FACT: there are fewer households with guns than in the 1970's.
:palm:

Again, I haven't claimed any expertise on the subject.

Your smarmy opinionated claims appear to be just that. Not to mention your complete inability to relate to or stay on the tropic.

It's just that I know the really basic stuff, and you don't, which is why I seem to you to be so much more of an expert on the topic.

Apparently your lack of reading comprehension prevents you from knowing much of anything. But it is apparent that you have a very high, misplaced opinion of yourself and cannot follow topics or countering opinions and arguments you don't like. :palm:

.... Not to mention your complete inability to relate to or stay on the tropic.

Cancer or Capricorn?

But it is apparent that you have a very high, misplaced opinion of yourself....

No. I have a pretty neutral opinion of myself. It only looks high from your perspective since you suffer from a pathological level of self loathing. Anyone who doesn't outright hate herself looks downright arrogant in comparison.

Indeed.

The morbidly misguided, politically, child and recent high school graduate was never taught about bearing false witness.

“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” This Commandment is recorded in Exodus 20:19 and Deuteronomy 5:20. It is typically understood as a command not to tell lies. Yet the power and rich meaning of this simple commandment reaches far beyond the simple admonition to tell the truth.

I'm neither presumptuous fool. What has this got to do with the topic? :palm:

More laughably stupid gibberish. You seem to be quite full of it. :palm:

It appears that she wasn't taught much od anything. ;)

She appears to hate the military, posting a thread about military propaganda.

The military is the only group standing between the head-choppers and Americans...like her.

She does appear to hate a lot of things. The truth. Republicans. Facts. The Constitution. She's a caricature of ignorance and stupidity. She seems to be her biggest fan.

You are the one who brought up staying on the tropic. I'm just trying to identify which one.

Ah yes, the old rhetorical, colloquial, childish "I know you are, but what am I" argument. :palm:
