1/2 way there!

...until Putin snatches another sports star. LOL

Why do you think Putin wanted him back if he's so worthless?

1) If any American figure goes to Russia after this, they deserve to get snatched.

2) Probably for the propaganda value and the appearance of forcing Biden to accept less than he wanted.

3) Possibly for some minor intelligence value.

He won't be travelling to other countries to conduct arms business anymore though.

Our intelligence would pick him up so fast it would make his head spin.

One of the dumbest posts I've ever seen.

How was Biden supposed to get Whelan out when Putin says nyet?

And Biden is still working on it. BTW.

Why didn't Joe say no ?...Putin would have caved...he needed that murderer home... I don't know who made that deal but it could have and should have been both of them...

I know why he took her and I know why he should have held out for both of them. But it's no surprise... the press conference made it clear... I'm not unhappy she's home... I'm unhappy that Paul is not... that being said she knew what she was doing she's been playing in Russia since 2014... I hope the plane played this on a loop the whole way home...

She brought the same stuff into Russia before. The Russians were saving it for the right time.

1) Agreed. The difference is that I believe that applied before Brittney Griner, not just after.

2) Those can certainly apply, but I think it goes deeper.

3) Intelligence on US prisons? Doubtful. Putin, like Trump, is transactional...he's just a lot smarter than Pedo Don since he doesn't do things only for money. He does it for power, for control. I strongly suspect he wanted Viktor Bout back to use him.

Why would he have to leave Russia to conduct arms business? With Putin having his back, he can have whomever he likes to visit him on Russian-controlled territory.

Nonsense.

Putin is getting his ass kicked in Ukraine and still won't back off.

And you think he'd cave over a prisoner swap negotiation?

Get a grip.

okay I just found out they were holding out to nail her on the hash oil until now...:laugh:.
But Putin wanted that murderer and we could have gotten both of them out if we had somebody who was competent... Biden caved...

I'm sure Russian intelligence has plenty of questions for him about the details of his arrest which could shed some insight on what our intelligence knew, how they knew it, who might have helped, etc, etc, etc.

You can't just look at it on the surface.

As for leaving Russia to conduct arms business, of course he has to. That's not a telephone or video conference deal. How do you think he got nabbed to begin with?

We certainly didn't send a commando team into Moscow to get him and smuggle him out.

I think he's mostly if not completely done.

He might give some behind the scenes advice etc, but it's highly doubtful that he'll ever be 100% back in the game and out on the playing field again.

The US mail and "lawyer visits" would be sufficient to pass all of that information back to Mother Russia.

Agreed; it goes deeper than the Democratic victory lap.

Ask Putin. Putin clearly wanted Bout back badly enough to create an international incident snatching US citizens. Bout can have is face-to-face deals on Russian territory as long as Putin is backing him.

So, you think that he could write letters to Russia and they would not be read, photographed and analyzed by US officials before ever being put in the mail?

Come on.

As for his "lawyer visits" if he was allowed a lawyer supplied by the Kremlin, which is doubtful, he/she would be vetted and examined inside and out to determine whether or not he/she was a KGB plant. And they'd probably watch and listen in on them via security camera anyway. Any papers passed would be examined in depth, etc, etc.

As far as snatching Griner to create an incident, they didn't plant the hash oil in her baggage. She admitted bringing it with her. Why? Because she's a typical spoiled, entitled member of one of America's protected groups who was mentally programmed to think she was above the law everywhere else like she is here at home.

Putin didn't need to create this incident.

She created it herself and they had every legal right to arrest, try and convict her.

Yes, the punishment was way too severe by a factor of about 4, but that's a different conversation.

What weapons will he be able sell if his deals all occur in Russia? I doubt they are going to let him sell the weapons they are struggling to find in order to supply their war in Ukraine. It is more likely they want him to buy weapons for Russia from other sources.

No. Are you saying the US would censor his mail?

Are you saying the US would violate his rights with his lawyer? What if the lawyer had a tablet and simply had Bout type in his messages during their consultation? There are a myriad of ways to pass information....in the US that means a stripping of rights to stop the messages. Killing them stops the messages 100% of the time.

You don't understand the difference between taking advantage of an opportunity and a conspiracy theory where Putin is plotting to capture US citizens? Dude, get a grip. Occam's Razor always applies. Putin is patient. He doesn't need to hatch plots to plant drugs on people. There are idiots like Griner who are happy to do it for him. All he needs to do is watch and wait.

Dude, prisoners have their mail read ALL THE TIME!!!!

And attorneys are not allowed to bring ANYTHING with them inside a Federal prison.

Finally, if you think they wouldn't listen in on THAT GUY'S meetings with ANYONE, you're being sadly naive....

And the prisoners in the inmates in the above article were not Russian international arms dealers.

I'm pretty sure The Department of Homeland Security, the CIA, the NSA and the FBI could get authorization to bug his meetings.

Or else just do it without authorization.

You said Putin created an international incident.

That implies he planned or had something to do with Griner getting busted for drugs.

If, as you just said, she was the idiot who came along and did it for him, how is that creating an incident?

It isn't.

And I asked if you were claiming the US censored his mail? Why did you refuse to answer? Or did I miss it?

"Dear Vlad,
The capitalist dogs tricked me with drinks and prostitutes! I'm innocent! Please do something to free me, my dear comrade KGB Colonel.

Your friend, Viktor"

Looks like you missed it.

I told you that they open and read inmates' mail.

I backed up my claim with a link to as credible of a source as you could ask for.

I figured you'd understand that if they open and inspect incoming mail, they obviously open, inspect and edit outgoing mail as well.

If he was trying to pass potentially damaging intelligence to the Kremlin, do you think they'd just let it go?

I don't.

Seems logical to most people.

Apparently not to you, though. :dunno:

Looks like you missed it.

Yes, agreed. So what? Are you saying the US would censor his mail or not?

Let me draw you a picture so you may better understand. Is this what you are claiming happened?:

Biden rewards a perverted, drug addicted anti-American basketball player and leaves a Marine behind (once a Marine, always a Marine).

Biden showed his true colors once again.

The “Merchant of Death” swap and illegals (non-citizens) always come ahead of legal American citizens and Marines.

You're being silly here.

Why would they take it to that extreme if the majority of a particular letter said nothing that might compromise US security?

If the letter included information about our interrogation or surveillance techniques, or who might have tipped off the US and Thai authorities (he was arrested in Thailand), or any other info, or possibly code words that we don't want the Kremlin to know, then obviously that info would be redacted and the rest left alone.

Why are you acting so thick headed about this?

It's just common sense.

Do you hate to lose an argument so badly that you just double down on what caused you to lose to begin with just to avoid conceding?
