Most of the South used to have a huge problem with malaria. Now malaria is virtually unheard of in America. Republicans shrug it off as magic, and do not realize that it is organizations like the CDC working very hard. The same is true about smallpox, and a hundred other diseases.
The CDC is a victim of its own success. Republicans assume that because the CDC is so successful, there was never a danger, and there is no need for the CDC.
